Businessman disappears from his home

Forensic officers have just entered the Mt Pleasant property at the centre of a missing persons investigation.

Major Crime detectives are investigating the disappearance of a businessman who is in his forties.

He was reported missing by his sister last night.

Neighbours say the man from Bateman Road was last seen on Sunday.

The property has been on the market for eight weeks with an asking price of more than $3 million.

It is understood the missing man had purchased a property in Sydney and was intending to move interstate.

Forensic officers are travelling to the home which remains under police guard.

Sharks circling around Tim Smith

NRL struggler Cronulla remains hopeful of signing former Parramatta star Tim Smith despite the Sharks’ offer being “withheld” while his Queensland club plays hard-ball.

Sharks chief executive Richard Fisk says a long-term offer was made to Smith but Brisbane Easts are standing in the way of the former Dally M rookie of the year heading south.

The talented half-back was registered with both the Brisbane Broncos and the Easts Tigers for 2010 and, while the Broncos have cleared him, the Queensland Cup side is yet to follow suit.

“Brisbane Easts have stalled it, they didn’t want to clear him and (Smith’s manager) David Riolo is discussing it with Brisbane Easts,” Fisk said.

“In the meantime we’ve withheld our offer, not withdrawn it, just withheld it until he gets clearance from Brisbane Easts.

“It’s out of our hands and I just hope common sense prevails. It’s a great opportunity for the kid.”

A compensation package for the Broncos’ feeder club is at the centre of negotiations but Fisk did not wish to put a figure on their asking price.

“I don’t want to speculate on what their requests are but we’re working through it,” he said.

Cronulla is attempting to turn around a horror year on and off the field, but is unconcerned by Smith’s history.

He was suspended by Parramatta in 2007 following several alcohol-related incidents and quit the NRL early in 2008 after announcing he suffered from bipolar disorder.

“Every comment about Tim has been fantastic and he’s passed every test with flying colours,” Fisk said.

“Let’s remember the kid’s got bipolar disorder and he’s got medication for it and now he’s OK.

“I think it’s great to give someone like that another chance.”

The 25-year-old headed to Wigan, where current Sharks captain Trent Barrett was then playing, to escape the pressure of the Sydney rugby league fishbowl and Barrett has given him a glowing reference.

“Trent was very positive in his comments,” Fisk said.

Smith returned from Wigan this season hoping to win back a place in the NRL with the Broncos.

His signature would be a massive boost for the Sharks, who have lost a club-record 12 straight NRL games and struggled to find a quality half-back since the departure of Brett Kimmorley at the end of 2008.

Their number seven in 2009, Brett Seymour, was sacked last year after a series of alcohol-related off-field indiscretions and has joined the Warriors.

Coach Ricky Stuart has dropped Scott Porter and named journeyman John Morris at half-back for Monday’s match against South Sydney.

Sarah Palin near deal for nature doco

Sarah Palin is reportedly close to securing a deal for a travelogue reality show.

Sources say Discovery Communications has edged out rival A and E Networks in the bidding for the project, Sarah Palin’s Alaska, and an agreement could be announced in the next few days.

It is still undecided which network in the Discovery suite would air Alaska, which is being produced by Mark Burnett Productions.

Although travelogues are on-brand for the Discovery flagship, having Palin as a centrepiece also makes the show a fit for mum-friendly TLC.

Clearly nature docs are still viable for the company – Discovery’s latest effort in the genre, the miniseries Life, debuted to 11.8 million viewers on Sunday night.

In her numerous TV appearances, Palin has proven she can draw an audience. But her show will not come cheaply.

The former Alaska governor’s asking price was $US1.2 million per episode. A network paying anywhere close to that figure would make Alaska one of the most expensive nature series ever produced.

The high-definition program will be shot in a style similar to Life and Planet Earth and will feature the 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate acting as a guide to the Alaskan outdoors.

When it was commissioned by the BBC at a cost of $US25 million, the 11-part Planet Earth was considered the most expensive documentary the network had ever made.

Discovery Communications had no comment.

NEW YORK, March 3 (Reuters) – The percentage of U.S. home sellers who cut their asking price declined again in February and sellers made slightly smaller reductions in prices, real estate website Zillow.com said on Wednesday.

The median list price of homes, however, fell in January, Zillow said in a report, which was obtained by Reuters ahead of its scheduled release.

Nearly one in five homes, or 19.5 percent, listed for sale on the Zillow website had at least one price reduction as of the end of February, down from 19.8 percent in January, Zillow said.

Home sellers reduced prices by a median 6.7 percent in February, down from 6.8 percent in January.

The percentage of homes on the market with price reductions has declined steadily for much of the past year. In February 2009 more than one-third, or 33.2 percent, of homes listed on Zillow had a price reduction, and the median reduction was 8.7 percent.

The median list price of homes fell 1.4 percent in February from January, to $205,000, which is down 6.8 percent from the the median listing price in February 2009, Zillow said.

The time that homes sat on the market edged down to a median of 105 days in February, from 109 days in January, Zillow said. Those figures, however, have risen from a 2009 low of 90 days in August.

In February 2009 the median time on the market was 109 days on Zillow. (Editing by Leslie Adler)

Uncle Sam serves up tax bill to Philippoussis

Melbourne, Sep.6 (ANI): Tennis ace Mark Philippoussis is being chased by the US taxman and has sold his Williamstown family home to avoid having it repossessed.

It has now emerged that the US Internal Revenue Service has pursued the Scud for about 1.4 million dollars during the past decade.

US records show the IRS still wants about 500,000 dollars for tax debts dating back to 2003.

Philippoussis, who according to his mother is playing in a tournament in San Diego, revealed to the Sunday Herald Sun in May that his money was gone, he was depressed and he was battling to save the family home from repossession.

“Money came in left, right and centre; you just thought that’s how it was for everyone and that’s how it always will be,” he said at the time.

The Davis Cup hero put his Williamstown home on the market to avoid having it repossessed over his unpaid 1.3 million dollar mortgage, but it was passed in for 775,000 dollars in July.

Wayne Elly, of Hocking Stuart, yesterday confirmed Scud’s house had sold recently for about the asking price of 950,000 dollars.

Philippoussis once owned at least five properties in the US, selling the last one in 2005 at a loss.

Official US records suggest he still owes about 180,000 dollars for the 2004 financial year and about 317,000 dollars from 2003.

A former tax debt for about 918,000 dollars dating back to 2001 was satisfied in 2004, according to the Palm Beach County records office.

The IRS would not comment this week, but a US tax expert said the documents suggested the agency was confident it could recoup the debt. (ANI)

‘Credit-crunched Britney puts Beverly Hills pad for sale at cut-price fee’

London, June 20 (ANI): Recession has not even spared Britney Spears. The singer has reportedly put her house on the market for less than she bought it for.

Back in 2007, the Toxic hitmaker had paid 4million pounds for the Beverly Hills pad, reports The Sun.

After a bid to sell it for almost 1million pounds more in 2008, then another go that same year, she’s now reduced the asking price to 100,000 pounds under the original value and is expecting an offer well below that, according to sources.

Tevez threatens to leave if Man U fails to make him club’s highest paid player

London, June 19 (ANI): Carlos Tevez has told Manchester United to make him club’s highest-paid player or he will leave.

The Red Devils have agreed the 26 million pounds asking price to make the Argentinean striker’s loan move permanent. But they have still to match the personal terms of 110,000 pounds a week that stars Rio Ferdinand and Dimitar Berbatov earn.

Tevez, 25, has been on 95,000 pounds a week since joining Sir Alex Ferguson’s side but his loan ends at the end of this month, The Sun reports.

He is on holiday in Buenos Aires where he has also been contacted directly by new Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti. Tevez is impressed with new Blues’ boss Ancelotti’s personal approach.

Manchester City are also interested in grabbing the striker as boss Mark Hughes bids to build a team capable of giving the Premier League’s big four a tough fight.

Tevez was frustrated with the Red Devils last season for leaving him in the dark over his future. Now the player and his agent and co-owner Kia Joorabchian are happy to keep them waiting on their decision. (ANI)

Washington, May 18 (ANI): The ongoing economic crisis seems to have taken its toll on Denise Richards also, for the actress has been forced to reduce the selling price of her California mansion.

She confessed that she agreed to sing the song only because Cubs officials asked her to perform in return for letting her set up an information booth for the Kidney Cancer Association during riday’s game. (ANI)

According to RealEstalker.com, Carey and Cannon bought the house in early April from music engineer/producer Allen Sides, who had previously purchased it from Charlie’s Angels star Fawcett.

Tevez prepared to reduce pay demands

London, Apr 5 (ANI): To ensure his move to Manchester United is completed during the summer, footballer Carlos Tevez is prepared to reduce his pay demands.

It has been claimed that United are reluctant to pay 30 million pounds to Media Sport Investments, who hold the Argentinean striker’s registration.

But Tevez is so desperate for the deal to be done he has told his advisers to lower their asking price so he can sign a new five-year contract, News of the World reported.

He is prepared to accept wages of around 70,000 pounds a week rather than push for the 120,000 pounds paid to United’s top earners Rio Ferdinand and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Tevez’s loan deal with United runs out in June and both Real Madrid and Manchester City have been tempting him with 100,000pound-plus a week offers.

“I cannot think of any team except United. I do not want to play with any other team. The United fans love me and my family is very happy both in Manchester and in England,” Tevez said.

“My thoughts are only about winning titles with United and I hope I will still be here next season. I always follow my heart, and my heart is telling me it will be impossible for me to leave English football,” he added. (ANI)

Pierre Cardin selling his fashion empire for 1 billion euros

New York, Apr 1 (ANI): French fashion designer Pierre Cardin is all set to sell of his fashion empire, but only if he gets the right amount.

Cardin, 86, has put the price up at 1 billion euros, and will only sell if he gets it.

“The asking price is 1 billion euros, and if prospective buyers can’t pony up the funds, then that’s their problem, not mine,” the New York Post quoted him as telling the spring/summer issue of Fantastic Man.

“It’s not like I’m strapped for cash,” he added.

He also revealed that he had a deal hammered out last year, but it fell through when the economy collapsed. (ANI)

Man U not to renew loan deal with Argentinean Tevez

London, Mar.19 (ANI): Manchester United has announced that it will not be able to renew their loan deal with Argentinean Carlos Tevez.

In fact, the only way the Premier League champions can keep the 25-year-old striker after this season is to buy him – and the asking price is 32 million pounds, reports The Sun.

Tevez has been allowed to play for the Red Devils because he signed a two-year loan deal before new Premier League rules came into force last June.

Those regulations forbid similar loan arrangements, where third parties and not a club own players. Tevez is still owned by agent Kia Joorabchian.

Tevez will now go to the highest bidder at the end of the season – but he will not be able to play beyond this summer unless a club buys out his registration. They will then play him – or loan him out. (ANI)
