Google in sexism row after ‘censoring cougar dating site ads’

London, May 20 (ANI): Google has landed itself in trouble by censoring advertisements for a so-called ‘cougar’ dating websites for women despite taking no action against ads of similar sites for men.

The company labelled the ad for the website, called CougarLife, which promotes relationships between older women and younger men, as “non family safe”.

However it allows ads that publicise such liaisons between older men and younger women – from a website called ArrangementSeekers.com.

Both CougarLife and ArrangementSeeks are owned by the same company, Avid Life Media.

Google officials then refused to allow the advertisements for the Canadian-owned dating service, which introduced “women in their prime with younger men”, to be sent to third party websites.

A “cougar” is a slang term used for such women in the US and is epitomised by celebrities such as Demi Moore, whose husband, Ashton Kutcher, is 16 years her junior.

According to The Telegraph, the company said the campaign, which cost 100,000 US dollars a month, generated referrals that accounted for almost two thirds of its traffic.

Google’s decision to censor the ad only landed it in more trouble as critics began accusing it of hypocrisy and sexism.

Claudia Opdenkelder, who is the founder of the CougarLife, and whose partner is 14 years her junior, accused the search giant of sexism.

“It”s just wrong all around,” The Telegraph quoted her as telling The New York Times.

“It”s age and gender discrimination. It”s just about older, successful, independent, strong women who enjoy someone that”s younger.”

She added to Canada’s National Post, “It”s a huge double standard and I think women should just be appalled.

“We just want to be treated the same way as all the others, and the discrimination against the word ”cougar” makes it even worse.

“It makes us – cougar women – feel like dirty perverts.”

A Google spokeswoman denied all the accusations.

She said the company had a list of words, which trigger a review of the site and the ads before a decision is made but declined to say if the word “cougar” was one of them.

“It’s not just about the ad, it’s about the ad and the landing page of the site,” she said.

“Anything that’s considered non-family safe will not run on the Google content network at this point.” (ANI)

Madonna, Cameron and Demi Moore offer dating advice for book

London, May 15 (ANI): Stars including Madonna, Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz have offered up their best dating advice for a new book designed to help men find girlfriends and keep them happy.

The book – ‘That”s what she said: Women Reveal What Men Really Need to Know’ – has been compiled by Punk”d producer T.J. Jefferson and features a foreword from the prank TV show”s star Ashton Kutcher.

The three beauties have doled out their own tips for people looking to date – especially men who want to woo women.

“If you want to get our clothes off focus on what you”re giving, not on what you can get! You may be able to score once – but we can smell the stink of selfish desires a mile away and are not interested. Women are caretakers by nature, don”t take it for granted. The romance we are looking for comes from being appreciated,” The Daily Star quoted Moore as writing.

While Madonna advises men to let their women take charge and pay them a lot of compliments, Diaz admits she enjoys “losing herself in wonder of love, beauty and sexiness”.

Lake Bell urges men not to be too “pushy” and Soleil Moon Frye claims “We like it dirty just like you…”

“It”s a fun read, but you can find something in there that can really help your relationship and stop you from sleeping on the couch that night. You”ve got people like Madonna giving advice in the book, but then you”ve got housewives in the Midwest and teachers and nurses. It might be hard for someone to relate to what Madonna is saying, but most of us can relate to everyday people, people that aren”t famous and aren”t in the spotlight – they need to be heard as well,” says Jefferson, the book”s author.

Demi Moore”s talk on sex trafficking at D.C. forum

Washington, May 5 (ANI): Actress Demi Moore is said to have taken her fight on sex trafficking to Washington D.C. after she and her husband Ashton Kutcher viewed footage on sex trade in Cambodia.

Moore, 47, said she and Kutcher, 32, tried to educate themselves on the issue and as they did, “it was like opening Pandora”s box”, and they were shocked to learn just how much of a problem child sex trafficking is in the U.S.

“We had no idea the magnitude of the issue of modern day slavery and had absolutely no idea what was happening here in America,” Politico News quoted her as saying.

“The numbers were so overwhelming,” she said.

They decided to take the matter to the bigwigs, and on May 4, Moore travelled from New York to face her first big lobbying experience in Washington.

She met with lawmakers in both chambers, spoke at a forum, and huddled with White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and other top White House aides to talk about the issue.

“Demi was very impressive,” Jarrett said after the meeting with Moore and some actual victims of sex trafficking.

“I was very moved by the two young women who accompanied Demi.

“Their willingness to share their painful and deeply personal stories helped us all understand the atrocities so many young girls face on our streets every day,” she stated.

Jarrett also said that she looked forward to continuing the conversation and visiting some of the victims in New York “so that we can better understand how we can help stop domestic human trafficking of girls”.

Moore, who admitted to being “a little nervous” on her maiden D.C. lobbying trip, said she knows she has “a long haul” ahead of her to raise people”s awareness.

“It”s not a popular issue,” she said.

“There isn”t anyone who disagrees that it”s unacceptable [but] people don”t treat it like a top priority. In general, it”s like the dirty little secret,” she stated.

At the forum, Moore sat alongside the sex trafficking survivors and talked about changing the “cultural stereotypes”.

“As a society we owe it to them to do everything we can to ensure that this doesn”t happen to anyone else,” she told a packed audience that included Rep. Chris Smith, Hill staffers and members of advocacy groups.

“We are focusing on the effect and not the cause. And we”ve bought into the myths, I think, collectively as a society that the girl is choosing it, she likes it, she”s making a lot of money.

“And, I tell you, you go into a room of 13-year-old girls and ask them to raise their hands if they want to be a prostitute and then tell me if they”re gonna choose it, and I guarantee you that none of them will be raising their hands,” she told the crowd. (ANI)

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher launch anti-slavery campaign in Haiti

London, Mar 30 (ANI): Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have unveiled a new campaign against child slavery in earthquake-ravaged Haiti to ban the unethical practice.

The Hollywood couple joined hands to voice their concerns over the country”s ”restavec” system, in which a child is sent to work as a domestic servant for another family as a means of supporting themselves.

The pair has claimed that the slavery prevents youngsters from gaining an education and experiencing their childhood.

And the stars have used their Demi & Ashton foundation to sponsor a pledge to encourage members at a United Nations meeting on Wednesday to donate to Haiti and call for the restavec system to be banned altogether.

“Let”s support the Haitian people, but let”s support them the right way, and let”s support all of them; don”t forget about the 300,000 children that are enslaved. It”s going to take a lot of loud voices,” the Daily Express quoted Kutcher as telling website Mashable.com.

Moore added: “It”s about creating the awareness that draws the line of what”s acceptable and unacceptable. Any human being enslaved is unacceptable. As long as one is enslaved, then we are all enslaved. It”s an atrocity to stand by and let this happen.” (ANI)

Twitter diplomacy

US state department sends a delegation of tech luminaries, including world’s most popular tweeter Ashton Kutcher, to Moscow in an attempt to use technology to improve relations.

Call it geek diplomacy. This week, in lieu of the congressmen and capitalists who typically make up delegations to Russia, Washington sent a detachment of Silicon Valley dreamboats: the 33-year-old creator of Twitter; the “chief lizard wrangler” of Mozilla ; the chief executive of eBay; and — for good measure — the actor Ashton Kutcher, who has edged out Britney Spears to become the world’s most popular Tweeter.

The approach is an unorthodox one, punctuated by such strange moments as Kutcher’s tweeted discovery of a Siberian man whose arm bore a large tattoo of his face. But it indicates how seriously Washington takes online networking as a social force. Among the delegation’s goals was to persuade Russia’s thriving online social networks to take up social causes like fighting corruption or human trafficking, said Jared Cohen, who serves on secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton’s policy planning staff.

“These platforms are more than just ways to make money — they’re affecting the lives of people for better or for worse,” Cohen said. “As that realisation takes hold, it’s just a natural human thing. People want to steer it toward the good rather than the negative.”

Russia has already developed the world’s most active social networking audience, with the average adult spending 6.6 hours a month on networking sites, according to the market research company comScore, which is based in Virginia. The government makes little effort to censor the web, which has become a key platform for dissenters like Major Alexei Dymovsky, who last November posted videos saying that the police were under pressure to fabricate charges.

The projects proposed by the delegation were neutral by comparison: a cellphonebased program to assist new mothers; a “safe jobs index” to protect women from human trafficking; and jobs tailored to deter young programmers from becoming hackers. The delegation also encouraged high-tech entrepreneurs to join with social activists, though in Russia, the two groups inhabit different worlds, said Esther Dyson of EDventure Holdings, a member of the delegation.

To many in business, social activists “have lost touch with what is going on,” said Dyson, who has been investing in Russian companies for 20 years. “Their attitude is kind of like: ‘We don’t think that stuff was effective. We’re entrepreneurs. It’s not relevant to us.’ They don’t identify with these heroes of the past.”

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed article last week, Evgeny Morozov chided the State Department for indulging in “techno-utopianism,” the notion that social networking has a natural democratising effect. On the contrary, he argued, crowds mobilised online tend to be chaotic and riven by internal debates , while repressive governments use the same platforms, often anonymously, to distribute propaganda.

He also warned delegations like the one in Moscow tie the platforms too closely to Washington. “The kind of message that it sends to the rest of the world — ie that Google, Facebook and Twitter are now just extensions of the US state department — may endanger the lives of those who use such services in authoritarian countries,” wrote Morozov, a Belarussian and the author of an coming book about the internet and democracy. “It’s hardly surprising that the Iranian government has begun to view all Twitter users with the utmost suspicion.”

A British tabloid claimed Moore was playing a plastic surgery obsessed former model.

Rumour mills have long been running that the 46-year-old actress has apparently spent more than 200,000 pounds fixing her face and body.

However, the ‘The Indecent Proposal’ actress, the mum-of-three, has finally scotched them.

“It’s completely false – I’ve never had it done. I would never judge those who have. If it’s the best thing for them then I don’t see a problem,” the Sun quoted her as saying.

She added: “But I don’t like the idea of having an operation to hold up the ageing process. It’s a way to combat your neurosis. The scalpel won’t make you happy.”

However, Demi, whose third husband Ashton Kutcher is 31, did not rule out ever having surgery.

“The day I start crying when I look at myself in the mirror might be the day when I’m less adamant about not having it done. For now I prefer to be a beautiful woman of my age than try desperately to look 30,” she told a French magazine.

The actress, who was previously wed to Bruce Willis, said that the age gap with actor Ashton “is not relevant”. (ANI)

Pitt to Kutcher: Don’t photograph your wife’s butt

Washington, July 16 (ANI): Don’t expect Brad Pitt to follow in Ashton Kutcher’s footsteps and take picture of his partner’s booty and post it online.

In August’s Wired magazine, the star is asked what he thought about Kutcher putting a photo of his wife Demi Moore’s bottom on Twitter.

“Don’t take a picture of your wife’s butt. That’s silly. Take pictures of other people’s wives’ butts,” Usmagazine.com quoted him as telling the magazine.

As for online dating, the 45-year-old actor has warned those looking for love on the Internet.

“Everyone lies online. In fact, readers expect you to lie. If you don’t, they’ll think you make less than you actually do. So the only way to tell the truth is to lie,” he said. (ANI)

Demi Moore shows off washboard abs at 46

London, July 12 (ANI): Demi Moore is 46 years in age, but her beach body might just give women half her age a run for their money.

The ‘Ghost’ beauty showed off her figure in a tiny bikini in the Bahamas this week, where she is holidaying with hubby Ashton Kutcher, 30.

The mum-of-three has a washboard stomach that even rivals Kutcher’s six-pack.

While holidaying, the actress even gave herself a break from her punishing fitness regime, as she clutched a beer while fooling around in the waves with her hot husband.

“Demi looked fantastic – and you don’t get abs like that at her age without putting in a lot of hard work and spending a lot of cash,” the Mirror quoted an onlooker at the beach as saying.

Demi has defied Mother Nature through years of exercise and dieting, and what many claim a little help from the surgeon’s knife as well.

Although Demi has always dismissed rumours about her costly cosmetic surgery, she has admitted paying for unusual treatments such as a detox session involving leeches sucking her blood.

In fact, the ‘Strip Tease’ star has also employed an army of health advisers – including a nutritionist, personal trainer, yoga teacher and kickboxing coach. (ANI)

Both Brown, 20, and Rose, 26, locked lips at the July 4 White Party thrown by Sean (Diddy) Combs and Ashton Kutcher in Beverly Hills.

And even though Brown arrived at the party with singer Teyana Taylor, an 18-year-old Rihanna look-alike, he quickly hooked up with Rose.

“Diddy announced the deejay would do a tribute to Michael Jackson,” the New York Daily News quoted a guest as saying.
