The Nationalist Congress Party is not in favour of a caste-based census, but has not made it an issue as it finds Big Brother Congress suddenly more accommodating towards the Yadav triumvirate — Sharad, Mulayam and Lalu — than its partners in the UPA. At the Cabinet meeting last week, senior NCP leader and Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel took the middle path, pointing out that the matter has reached such a point that the government would be criticised either way. The NCP camp is dismayed at the haste with which the Congress brought the onus on the government by promising to bring the issue in the Cabinet.
The Cabinet meeting witnessed some spirited opposition with Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports M S Gill leading from the front and terming it as a retrogressive step. Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal wanted the government to take a “rationalist” approach.
The biggest surprise, however, was Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh’s support for a caste census. He said that by promising to bring the issue in the Cabinet, the government had already committed itself to the cause

On Wednesday, 16th December 2009 an earthquake of 3.5 magnitude struck at Southeast Nebraska at 8:53 p.m in night.
Its epicenter was aprox 2 mile outside of Auburn.
According to USGS the earthquake was taken place along the Humboldt Fault Line.
A spokesperson explained that it is not ordinary for tremble to happen in Nebraska, but they are not excessively anxious with this occasion.
People had noticed the shaking of the ground & heared the loud sounds of there things, which was falling on the ground.

Mike Beck, a member of Fat Joe’s K.A.R. collective, an aspiring rapper was shot and killed on late night Friday 30th October 2009, in a botched robbery attempt in Brooklyn, New York.
He was an up-and-coming rapper, born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.
His good friend Bill Blass — who has also passed — was managing Rakim, and encouraged him to take music seriously.
On his grind, Beck began making guest appearances on official albums from Fat Joe, Greg Street, and has appeared on countless mixtapes over the years.
He was also set to appear, heavily, on the upcoming Koch Records compilation, Joey Crack & Pistol Pete presents K.A.R.

Reports of massive participation in 48 hours strike have starting pouring to CHQ. Assam, NE-I, NE-II, A&N Islands have already reported complete strike. Telecom Factory Richai, except few NFTE office bearers all are on strike. In West Bengal & Kolkata, almost all offices are closed without anybody to attend office. Circle Secretary T. Nadu reports enthusiastic participation in strike. In Kerala Circle, strike is almost complete as usual. Karnataka Circle reports massive participation in strike. Workers are demonstrating in front of offices in all centres. More reports are coming.
Media and dailies have given wide publicity in the strike.

San Francisco – Colonial BancGroup Inc. became the largest bank failure this year Friday after the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation seized the struggling Alabama-based lender and sold it to BB&T Corp. This failure is considered to be the sixth-largest bank failure in U.S. history.
BB&T will purchase about $22 billion of Colonial’s total assets of $25 billion. The FDIC said it will hold on to the rest – about $3 billion worth – and will try to sell them later.
The FDIC and BB&T also entered into a $15 billion loss-share agreement, which significantly limits the risk for BB&T when it comes to bad loans. Under such an agreement, the FDIC shares losses on loans that an acquirer deems too risky.
The acquisition of Colonial, BB&T’s largest in its 137-year history, creates the nation’s eight-largest financial holding company by deposits. It also moves BB&T to the No. 4 market share in Alabama.
Colonial Bank is the 74th FDIC-insured institution to fail in the nation this year, and the first in Alabama.
More than 1,000 banks may fail during the next three to five years, RBC Capital Markets estimated in February.
