New Delhi, June 4 (ANI): The Congress party has renominated Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni from Punjab and All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Mohsina Kidwai from Chhattisgarh for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha.

“Four other candidates renominated include Vijay Darda and Avinash Pandey from Maharashtra, EMS Natchiappan from Tamil Nadu and Dheeraj Prasad Sahu from Jharkhand,” an AICC release said on Friday.

Action replay: Soren out, Prez rule looms

Jharkahnd is set for yet another spell of President’s Rule with Chief Minister Shibu Soren resigning on the eve of Monday’s trust vote that he looked set to lose.

The Congress is not inclined to be a part of any alternative coalition government at this stage and the BJP remained firm on its decision not to support Soren. While the JMM in a last-ditch attempt offered support to the BJP, the latter said it wouldn’t accept the same.

According to sources, the UPA government at the Centre would prefer to have a brief spell of President’s Rule to put the house in order in the state that is witnessing increasing Naxal menace.

AICC in charge of Jharkhand

K Keshava Rao refused to spell out

the Congress’s stance. “It is for the Governor to decide now,” he told The Indian Express.

On Sunday night Soren called on Governor M O H Farooq to submit his resignation. Farooq asked him to continue as caretaker CM till further orders. “I will continue to work for the people,” said Soren.

Although the Congress reportedly did explore the possibility of forming an alternative coalition consisting of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) of Babulal Marandi and Soren’s JMM, it made no headway as the Congress refused to have a JMM chief minister or give Soren any Cabinet berth at the Centre. The Congress was, however, willing to consider giving Soren’s son the Deputy CM’s post and to also consider a gubernatorial assignment for the JMM chief. Given Soren’s alleged softness for Maoists, the UPA crisis managers did not want him to have any say in running the state. Soren was reportedly not prepared to accept these terms.

Trying to save his government, Soren was learnt to have reached out to BJP president Nitin Gadkari, urging him to “forget my U-turns”, and even signing a letter of support to the party.

During a meeting held at the CM’s official residence on Sunday morning, JMM and All Jharkhand Students’ Union (AJSU) MLAs unanimously resolved to convey their offer to the BJP to revive the deal and to let Soren seek the vote of confidence on the floor of the Assembly on Monday.

“We appeal to all parties and members of the Assembly to rise above party lines and vote in favour of the motion of confidence,” said Hemlal Murmu, a JMM MLA. “We were with the BJP, we are with the BJP, and we will remain with the BJP.”

The JMM chief apparently banked on the fact that most of the BJP MLAs were inclined to accept his offer.

However, the BJP stuck to its stand of not having any truck with Soren. Dealt one embarrassing blow by Soren after another since the cut motion vote in Parliament, it had decided that enough was enough. The Left and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha too decided to oppose the trust vote.

According to Congress sources, after a brief spell of President’s Rule, fresh efforts would be made to cobble up an alternative coalition arrangement. “By that time, Shibu will also have done his loss-benefit analysis,” said a senior Congress leader.

President’s Rule had been lifted in Jharkhand only five months ago, nearly a year after it was imposed in December 2009 to pave the way for formation of a JMM-BJP government.

Soren’s son Hemant, however, remained confident of a JMM-backed government: “With his (Soren’s) resignation, the prospect of formation of a new JMM-supported government has brightened because no party or MLA is in favour of President’s Rule, followed by Assembly polls.”

Chaturvedi axed as Congress spokesperson over comments on Pawar

New Delhi, Mar 17 (ANI): Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi has been removed as party spokesperson over his alleged comments on Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) (NCP) chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

Chaturvedi reportedly used ”uncivilised language” during an interview to a news channel two days back while criticising Pawar on the issue of price rise.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) Chairperson Janardhan Dwivedi confirmed the news that Chaturvedi has been removed from the party following his comments on Pawar.

Earlier also, Chaturvedi was caught in the middle of a controversy following his uncharitable remarks against the then Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh. (ANI)

Rahul holds meeting with Congress activists, farmers in Thanjavur

Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu), Sep 9 (ANI): All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is on a three-day visit to Tamil Nadu, visited Thanjavur on Wednesday and held meetings with Youth Congress activists and farmers.

Gandhi was welcomed by thousand of Congress supporters, who stood outside the venue, Kandha Saras Mahal, just to have a glimpse of the young leader.

“We are very happy to be a part of this meeting, which focuses on propagation of policies and programmes of the Congress party towards the youth. And the idea of this meeting is to further the ideology of the party,” said Swaminathan, Chairman of Municipal Corporation Committee.

However, his speech got a mixed response from the farmers who attended the meeting. They felt that Gandhi neglected the agriculture sector in his speech.

“The entire focus of Rahul’s speech was targeted towards strengthening of grassroots of the party in the state whereas his neglecting of farmers’ issues have disappointed us,” said Sundra Vimalanathan, a farmer.

It is believed that Gandhi is aiming to revitalise the Congress party in Tamil Nadu, where Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) are the two major political players. (ANI)

M. Veerappa Moily: legal veteran, party voice, educationist

M. Veerappa Moily: legal veteran, party voice, educationistNew Delhi, May 22 (IANS) Karnataka chief minister, Congress spokesperson, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC)… M. Veerappa Moily has held many positions in his 30 years in the Congress but has never been a Lok Sabha MP or a central minister.

On Friday, all that changed for the 69-year-old veteran when he was named cabinet minister along with 18 others in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s new government.

The law graduate from Marpadi village in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district was a familiar face in the run-up to the 2009 elections as he articulated the Congress point of view in several controversies. In the fag end of the month long election, he was seen to be sidelined after making adverse comments against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who the Congress had been attempting to woo.

Moily, who has successfully made the leap from state politics to the central stage after having won his first Lok Sabha election from Chikballapur, heads the Overseeing Committee appointed for Implementation of Reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBC) by the government. He is also chairperson of the Second Administrative Reforms Commission of India.

The man, who has to his credit the National Law School in Bangalore, was chief minister of Karnataka from 1992-94, and leader of the opposition in the Karnataka assembly before that from 1983-85.

Moily has held several portfolios in various Congress ministries in Karnataka, having been minister for finance, small scale industries, law, youth service, culture, information, parliamentary affairs and education at various points.

When he was the chief minister, Moily led the implementation of economic reforms in the state. He is responsible for drafting and implementing the Karnataka Land Reforms Act in 1974.

Moily, who has presented several Karnataka budgets, also set records of revenue surplus during every stint as finance minister.

Moily is the chief architect of the new Common Entrance Test (CET) system launching an admission policy for technical education founded on merit, transparency and social justice.

Besides establishing the nation’s leading law institute, he also set up six universities — Kannada University, Rajiv Gandhi Medical University, Visweshwariah Technical University, Karnataka Open University, Mangalore University and Gulbarga University.

Moily, who practiced law in the courts of Karkala, Mangalore, High Court in Bangalore and at the Supreme Court of India, is author of the epic poem “Sri Ramayana Mahanveshanam” in five volumes containing 42,295 lines in Kannada and is being translated in Hindi.

Moily, who is a columnist, has also authored “Musings on India”, a two-volume collection containing articles on contemporary issues, including public finance.

Congress to discuss issue of govt. formation without Lalu

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Monday said the Congress would discuss the issue of government formation only with its pre-poll allies, of which the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is not a part.

“Along with the Congress, we have the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the Trinamool Congress (TC), the National Conference (NC), Kerala Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). These are the allies. Pre-poll allies as Janardan Dwivedi has indicated does not include the RJD at the moment,” Digvijay Singh told reporters here.

When asked if the RJD Chief Lalu Prasad is a member of the UPA Government, Singh said the Railways Minister did not consider the Congress strong enough for a pre-poll alliance.

At the same time, Digvijay Singh praised the RJD chief for standing by the Congress when it was in the opposition and termed him as ‘a very senior and seasoned politician’.

“Lalu is the person who stood in support of Sonia Gandhi, when everybody was opposing. We cannot forget this,” Singh added. (ANI)

Deshmukh wants Congress to contest Maharashtra assembly polls alone

Mumbai, May 17 (ANI): Triumphed with his party’s success in the Lok Sabha elections, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on Sunday said that he wants the Congress party to go alone in the upcoming assembly polls.

“We want to contest assembly elections in Maharashtra without aligning with any other party. We will put up a proposal before the Congress high command to go alone in Maharashtra assembly elections,” he told reporters here.

The NCP-Congress coalition government has completed nine years in Maharashtra. eshmukh, who comes with a seven years chief ministerial experience, is a strong supporter of Congress contesting the elections alone.

Deshmukh said Congress party’s experiment of contesting polls on its own in Uttar Pradesh under AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi’s leadership had shown wonderful results.

“We wanted to contest the Lok Sabha elections. We will try to go alone in assembly,” he said.

Deshmukh quashed the idea that Congress fared well in the elections due to the division of votes by presence of MNS candidates in the fray.

“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s clean image and the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were instrumental in the success of Congress,” he said. (ANI)

Congress removes Moily from Media Chairman post

New Delhi, May 9 (ANI): Congress party removed its Media Chairman Veerappa Moily from the post, a day after he made strong remarks against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar – emerging as Indian politics’ most-wanted.

Moily has been replaced by AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi, who had been holding the charge earlier.

According to party sources, Moily has been dropped from the post because “the party High Command is unhappy with his stand on some critical issues”, it’s clear the trigger was his speaking out of party’s line on Nitish Kumar.

On Friday, Moily said the Congress would not make a hero of Nitish Kumar who had rebuffed the party’s overtures to reach out to him.

He also accused the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) of “insulting” the Congress over seat-sharing in Bihar.

“We should be more angry. We never wronged them. It’s only Paswan and Laluji for reasons best known to them, they left us only two seats,” Moily had said.

Lalu and Paswan, key members of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance, seem annoyed over AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi’s praise of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

“What is the reality? Nitish Kumar is with the BJP. And if anybody wants to talk with Nitish, then first he has to leave the BJP. I don’t think that he will leave BJP,” Moily said. (ANI)

Congress in damage control mode over Mamata

Kolkata, May 6 (ANI): After angering Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee with pro-Left comment by Rahul Gandhi at his press conference in New Delhi yesterday, Congress party has come under damage control mode.

Party’s media department chairperson M Veerappa Moily on Wednesday said that Congress alliance with Trinamool Congress was “very precious,” and “we will not do anything to undermine it”.

“We have a very precious alliance with Mamata Banerjee’s party and it is permanent. We will not take even a single step forward to subvert the agreement with Trinamool Congress,” Moily said, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday.

“We will not at any cost undermine this agreement. This trust will continue between us,” he added.

Mamata Banerjee reportedly threatened to walk out of the alliance with Congress if it has any post-poll tie up with CPI (M).

“I am telling you I will not comment. I won’t make any comment on what Rahul Gandhi has said,” she said when quizzed about the same.

Trinamool Congress leader Partho Chatterjee said here that the party was opposed to any alliance at the Centre which includes the CPI (M).

On Tuesday, AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had said his party was always open to post-poll alliances with the Left.

“Ideological differences between Congress and Left persist, but there is lot of meeting ground and reasonable amount of common space,” he said.

Addressing a press conference at the Ashoka Hotel here, he had said, “If Left gets 180-190 seats, we will consider supporting them. I hope they are able to achieve that. If they are able to do that, I will be the first one to say you know what, let’s support the Left.” (ANI)

Rahul praising Nitish indicates Cong’s losing battle: Heptullah

Kolkata, May 6 (ANI): BJP leader Najma Heptullah on Wednesday said that Rahul Gandhi’s new found admiration for NDA ally Nitish Kumar is a clear indication that the Congress party is losing the Lok Sabha elections.

“That Congress leader Rahul Gandhi sought to reach out to NDA partners like Nitish Kumar, and praised him for development (of Bihar), is a clear indication that they are losing the elections,” BJP leader Najma Heptullah told reporters at a press conference.

She, unlike other BJP leaders, accepted AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi’s “awareness of ground realities.”

“Rahul has been touring the country and is aware of the ground realities. He is also aware that NDA is set to come to power again,” she said.

Heptullah accused the Congress Party of applying double standards in Lalu Prasad Yadav’s case. She said the party didn’t shy away from taking support of RJD chief Laloo Prasad to form government in 2004, whose Jungle Raj they had criticized when he was the chief minister of Bihar.

Replying to questions, she also spoke against former NDA ally and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee for her opposition to the Nano car project at Singur.

“This project could have ensured employment for many youth. It appears Trinamool has been imitating what the Left used to do in the past, opposing projects and going for bandhs”, she said.

On the possibility of Mamata’s return to the NDA fold, Heptullah said, “it is for her to take a decision”. (ANI)

Mamata warns Congress to choose between TMC or Left

Kolkata, May 6 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) President Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday sent out an ultimatum to Congress party to chose between TMC and Left in West Bengal.

The warning came after AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi told newspersons on Tuesday that the Congress could consider a post-poll alliance with Left parties if they have enough numbers.

Senior Congress leader and the party’s media cell chief, Veerappa Moily, however, said: “We won’t form any alliance that is against the TMC.”

Gandhi on Tuesday said his party would support the Left if they manage to gain 190 seats in the current Parliamentary elections.

He was responding to queries by the media persons who were reacting to his suggestion that the Congress did not rule out a post-poll tie-up with the Left parties. Rahul said that the Congress was always open to post-poll alliances.

Addressing a press conference at the Ashoka Hotel here, Gandhi said, “If Left gets 180-190 seats, we will consider supporting them. I hope they are able to achieve that. If they are able to do that, I will be the first one to say you know what, let’s support the Left.”

“Ideological differences between Congress and Left persist, but there is lot of meeting ground and reasonable amount of common space,” he said.

He also expressed confidence that the Communists would accept Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister.

“Manmohan Singh is the party”"”"”"”s prime ministerial candidate,” he said, adding that he was also the allies”"”"”"” choice for the top job.

“He is the best Prime Minister this country can have. Allies are supporting us and have full faith in Dr Singh”, he added. (ANI)

Left rejects Congress option

New Delhi, May 5 (ANI): Rejecting AICC General secretary’s claims that the Congress and the Left parties will form a post-poll alliance, CPI (M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury has said that his party was working for a non-Congress, non-BJP secular alternative combination.

“We are working for a non-Congress, non-BJP secular alternative combination to provide a government that will effect a shift in the country’s policy trajectory in favour of the people,” Yechury said.

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan Congress on Tuesday said that the Congress had become “jittery” as it may not get the required numbers to form the government.

“They are nervous about it. So, by attacking the Left, they take care sometimes that to speak about having the Left with them. Congress is nervous about the fact that they will not have numbers. I don’t think Left will oblige them this time,” he said.

CPI leader D Raja termed the attempts by Gandhi to woo the Left parties is “an admission of their defeat” in the elections, which he said would throw up a non-Congress, non-BJP alternative coalition.

“This is an admission that Congress is losing. It is an admission of their own defeat,” Raja said.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi said his party was always open to post-poll alliances with the Left.

“Ideological differences between Congress and Left persist, but there is lot of meeting ground and reasonable amount of common space,” he said.

Addressing a press conference at the Ashoka Hotel here, he said, “If Left gets 180-190 seats, we will consider supporting them. I hope they are able to achieve that. If they are able to do that, I will be the first one to say you know what, let’s support the Left.” (ANI)

Lalu Yadav says Congress has no existence in UP and Bihar

Patna, May 02 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday claimed that the Congress party has no existence in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Criticising the All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Gulam Nabi Azad in a press conference here for his recent statement that aligning with regional parties in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh was a “big mistake” by Congress and it will not repeat it in future, Lalu said, “RJD is a national party and all should know that. The Congress virtually has no existence in the two states.”

On Friday, Gulam Nabi Azad, while talking to the reporters here had said, “Congress should have tried to stand on its own in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar much earlier… There has been delay in severing the ties and we apologise from the people for the mistake (forging an alliance with regional parties)… The party will not be left to the mercy of regional parties.”

Predicting that no single party would be able to form a government after the Lok Sabha polls, Lalu once again reached out to the Left, saying the door for them was always open.

“The era of coalition governments is here to stay for long and we want the Left and secular forces to come together. The door for the Left is always open, ” he said.

Commenting on Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury’s statement that the Left was not averse to aligning with even the Janata Dal (United) after the polls, Lalu asked, “Do you (the mediapersons) think that the Left will join forces with the communal parties.”

“Nitish Kumar (Bihar Chief Minister) is sitting in the lap of communal BJP. The Left will never allow the communal forces to come to power.” He asserted. (ANI)

Advani a ‘maum-purush’ desperate for PM’s chair: Cong

Jaipur, Apr 19 (PTI) Congress today made a scathing attack on L K Advani, saying that BJP’s ‘iron man’ is actually “weak”, “helpless” and a “maum-purush” who is “desperately seeking” the prime minister’s chair and “passing the buck” on the Kandahar hijacking episode. “Advani who claims to be lauh-purursh and majboot neta (iron man and a strong leader) is actually weak, helpless, and a maum-purush (wax figure) as he is not revealing the truth and passing the buck on either the party or then prime minister A B Vajpayee for release of terrorists,” AICC spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told reporters here.

Citing Advani’s book and an interview to a news channel, he said it was deplorable that the BJP leader, who was then the Home Minister, was not aware of the decision taken by the Vajpayee government on Kandahar. Referring to a statement by former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, he said, “as per Abdullah, Advaniji called him a couple of times that the terrorists be released as it was decided by the Vajpayee cabinet”.

“The man who dreams to be PM of this democratic country should not make a false campaign.

Rather he should be courageous, honest and a person who speaks truth,” he said.

“Advaniji ek lachar, majboor aur maum-purush hai, jo PM ki kursi pane ko betab hai (Advani is a weak, helpless and wax figure who is desperately seeking the prime minister’s chair .

It is ridiculous that he is not coming up clear on the matter,” Singhvi said.

Five former royals in Madhya Pradesh battle

Bhopal, April 20 (IANS) The days of the Raj are over and the royals no longer exist but the urge to rule is still there. Not to be left behind in the electoral race, at least five members of erstwhile royal families will be wooing the electorate in Madhya Pradesh in the Lok Sabha polls.

Heading the pack is Congress heavyweight Jyotiraditya Scindia, scion of the former princely state of Gwalior, contesting from Guna. Armed with an Oxford education, Jyotiraditya Scindia is transforming himself from a distant, flamboyant prince to a mass leader.

The union minister of state for IT and communications in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is contesting elections for the third consecutive time from Guna. Jyotiraditya Scindia entered politics after his father Madhavrao Scindia died in a helicopter crash in 2001 and since then has been winning from the seat.

The other four heirs of erstwhile rulers are in the fray from Gwalior, Rajgarh, Rewa and Sidhi parliamentary constituencies in Madhya Pradesh going to polls April 23 and April 30.

Jyotiraditya Scindia’s aunt and late Rajmata Vijayaraje’s daughter Yashodhara Raje Scindia, is the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) nominee from Gwalior.

Considered to be successor of late Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia, Yashodhara Scindia is contesting for the third time and is facing Ashok Singh of the Congress whom she defeated in the previous elections with a margin of about 36,000 votes.

Yet another scion of a princely state in the fray is Laxman Singh, younger brother of All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh.

Laxman Singh, of the Rajgarh princely state which came under Gwalior, is the BJP nominee from Rajgarh seat, from where he is the sitting MP. He has converted the contest into a ‘brother versus brother’ fight with one contesting the poll and the other campaigning against him. Having retained this seat on four occasions for the Congress, he switched over to the BJP in 2004 and won again.

Like Laxman Singh, Pushpraj Singh, heir of former ruler of Rewa, too is a former Congress member. He had been a minister in the erstwhile Congress regime in the state but later switched over to the Samajwadi Party on whose ticket he is contesting from Rewa constituency.

And most interesting is the case of Veena Singh, of the erstwhile state of Churhat in Sidhi district. She is the daughter of Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Arjun Singh.

Contesting from Sidhi for the first time, as an independent candidate, she would be facing resistance from her brother, Congress legislator and former Madhya Pradesh minister Ajay Singh. Her father has announced that he would campaign for her rival Congress candidate Indrajit Patel.

Congress demands counter apology from BJP

New Delhi/ Patna/ Ranchi (ANI): The Congress Party on Monday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to tender apologies for the Babri mosque demolition and communal statements made by its leaders.

Reacting to BJP leader L K Advani’s demand for an apology from Congress President Sonia Gandhi for her critical remarks on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Congress spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said, “Advani should begin by seeking an apology for Babri; he has to seek an apology for keeping quiet during Varun Gandhi’s reprehensive divisive speech, Praveen Togadia, Vinay Katyals and Narendra Modi have to seek apology.”

Commenting on the controversial statement of All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary in charge of the Goa desk, B K Hariprasad, Singhvi said, “This word (sorry) applies only to the BJP. Hari Prasad has only applied Narendra Modi’s sentence to himself and his leaders. Unless Modi apologises and withdraws, he should apply that statement for Advani also.”

Hariprasad had recently said that BJP should dump former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani into the Arabian Sea.

Expressing regret over the statements, BJP President Rajnath Singh told reporters in Patna, “I expect the Congress party to condemn the statement made by its General Secretary and it should see that such comments are not made in future by its leaders.”

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi ridiculed the Congress by saying that allies of the Congress party are contesting elections on their own despite being a part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

He claimed that such trends are an indication of loosing strength of the ruling Congress-led UPA.

“A new thing seen in these elections is that allies who are there with the Congress party, on one hand they say that they are with the Congress but then they fight elections on their own. The fate f these parties will not be different from that of Congress party and electorate will not give their mandate to these parties,” opined Narendra Modi while addressing an election rally n Ranchi. Tytler apologizes for ‘shameful’ 1984 riots

New Delhi, Apr. 10 (ANI): Congress leader Jagdish Tytler has vowed to apologize “a thousand times” for the “shameful” anti-Sikh riots in 1984.

“I will apologize because it happened in our time. I would apologize a thousand times for what happened to the whole Sikh community. I would say whatever happened was shameful,” a TV news channel quoted him as, saying.

On Thursday, a troubled Congress cancelled the names of leaders Tytler and Sajjan Kumar from the electoral fray as the ghost of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots returned to haunt the party.

Tytler, who was the Congress candidate in North East Delhi, now holds the then government responsible for the 1984′s blood-shed.

“I would say the people, the administration and the governor, who should have controlled (the situation), did not control at that time,” Tytler said.

The Congress decision comes amid the enraged Sikh community protesting against the CBI decision to give a clean chit to Tytler in 1984 riots.

An incident of shoe-throwing by a Sikh journalist at Home Minister P Chidambaram at AICC press conference further aggravated the situation. (ANI)
