Nando”s stripper mum ad most hated in Australia

Melbourne, May 16 (ANI): A commercial for fast food chain Nando”s featuring a topless, pole-dancing mum who serves a chicken dinner to her children is the most complained about Australian advertisement of the decade.

The ad, in which a stripper gyrates topless in front of a male nightclub patron before sitting down to eat Nando”s with her family, prompted 350 complaints to the Advertising Standards Bureau when it first aired in 2007.

The amount of complaints was the most the bureau had received for a commercial since 1998, reports News.com.au

An ad for Mentos Ice chewing gum was the second most complained about commercial of the decade. The ad features a man whose nipples extend after eating a mint.

The Advanced Medical Institute”s billboards and a confronting anti-smoking campaign featuring a woman”s rotting mouth also came up high on the list.

The Advertising Standards Bureau, however, dismissed all complaints about the ads. (ANI)

I think carefully before taking my clothes off: Eva Mendes

London, May 15 (ANI): Eva Mendes insists she’s comfortable with her body and thinks carefully about what she is taking her clothes off for.

The stunner has stripped naked for a Peta anti-fur campaign and a Calvin Klein advertisement, as well as posing for sexy photo shoots, reports The Mirror.

“Certainly I”m extremely comfortable, but it doesn”t mean that I”m always ready and willing,” Eva says.

“Just because I”m comfortable, doesn”t mean that it”s not very well thought out. And it”s part of the allure to make everything look like an accident. But trust me, as a female in this industry, nothing is an accident, I leave nothing to chance,” she adds. (ANI)

Aussie tourism body apologises for racial slur

Melbourne, May 12 (ANI): A Northern Territory Government agency has apologised after a blogger here caught it out paying for a sponsored Google link to the racial slur “Abo”.

Till Tuesday afternoon, if an internet user typed “Abo” into Google, a sponsored Tourism NT advertisement popped up. It even used the word as the headline for its ad.

Underneath “Abo” it said: “An experience you will never forget. Experience Aboriginal culture in NT””.

The ad linked to the Travel NT website, run by Tourism NT.

It was first spotted by blogger Brett Nicholson, of Melbourne agency Next Digital, on Monday.

””I came across this by accident when misspelling an acronym and I was quite shocked,”” he wrote in his blog.

””Not only have Tourism NT approved – and are bidding on – a racially offensive keyword, they are actually including the word ”abo” in an advertisement.””

According to The Courier Mail, Tourism NT released a three-sentence statement, which said it had alerted its online search provider and the link had been taken down.

Spokeswoman Carmel Nola, when pressed for more information, said they were still investigating. (ANI)

Woods quizzed by dead dad in new Nike ad

Nike has aired a television commercial featuring disgraced golf superstar Tiger Woods and the voice of the golfer’s late father.

The advertisement is Woods’s first since a sex scandal prompted many sponsors to distance themselves from the world number one.

The black-and-white spot shows a sombre-looking Woods looking into the camera while the voice of his father, Earl Woods, in an older recording, speaks in the background, asking: “Tiger?”

“I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are, and did you learn anything?”

Woods does not speak in the ad.

Woods spent nearly five months away from golf after startling revelations of his extramarital affairs came to light last year.

However he is making a highly anticipated return at the Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia, starting tomorrow (Australian time).

A spokesman for Woods could not be reached to comment.

Green group attacks MP’s wind farm stance

The Western Plains Landscape Guardians group has accused the state Member for Ripon, Joe Helper, of not listening to people’s concerns about wind farms.

The group put an advertisement in a Maryborough newspaper, saying Mr Helper spends too much time outside his electorate.

Spokeswoman Cassie Franzose says Mr Helper refuses to talk to the group.

“He has refused to sit down and talk with the Western Plains Landscape Guardians,” she said.

“He’s been invited many times over the past three years and he has never once taken us up on that invitation and he has quite publicly denigrated and totally denied that there’s any impact on local communities.”

Mr Helper says the nature of the flyer demonstrates why he is refusing to talk to the Western Plains Landscape Guardians.

“I think it shows the bereftness of their argument, that they’re playing the man not the issue,” he said.

“I think we can all have a valuable discussion about the issues involved but to turn it into a personalised attack I think is disappointing and must be disappointing to those that really would prefer to have a discussion about the issues involved.”

KFC under fire over ‘misleading’ fresh chicken claims in new ad

London, July 15 (ANI): KFC has come under fire over “misleading” claims that fresh chicken is delivered to each of its branch on a daily basis.

The fast food chain broadcast an advertisement, saying: “KFC. Fresh, on the bone chicken, every store, every day.”

But the Advertising Standards Authority discovered that since the meat was delivered to branches only three times a week, the claim in the advertisement did not stand true.

“We understood that chicken on the bone was delivered three times a week to KFC restaurants,” Sky News quoted it saying.

“However, we considered the claims ‘came in fresh this morning’ and ‘fresh chicken on the bone, every store, every day’ implied that the chicken was delivered daily.

“We concluded that the ad was likely to give viewers a misleading impression of the frequency of deliveries,” it was added. (ANI)

Wookey Hole Caves require witch who can cackle at œ50K a year

London, Jul 8 (ANI): A witch, who can cackle, is being sought after to live at Britain’s Wookey Hole Caves.

The caves situated near Wells, Somerset, are a favourite among the tourists.

And an advertisement has been placed at the local Job Centre for someone to teach visitors about witchcraft and magic after its previous employee retired.

The successful applicant ‘must be able to cackle’ and ‘must not be allergic to cats’, but will enjoy a salary of 50,000 pounds pro rata based on work during school holidays and at weekends.

Wookey Hole said that the role was open to men, women, and even trans-gender witches to comply with sexual discrimination laws.

Legend has it that the caves were home to the Wookey Witch who was turned to stone by Father Bernard who had been appointed by the Abbott of Glastonbury to rid villagers of her curse.

“Wookey Hole wants the appointee to go about her everyday business as a hag, so that people passing through the caves can get a sense of what the place was like in the Dark Ages,” the Telegraph quoted Daniel Medley, from Wookey Hole Caves, as saying.

“This was when an old woman lived in the caves with some goats and a dog, causing a variety of social ills including crop failures and disease.

“So the job is straightforward: live in the cave, be a witch, and do the things witches do,” he said.

The pro rata salary is based on work when required, mostly during the summer holidays, but also at Halloween and Christmas time.

Auditions for the role are being held on July 28 in front of a panel of judges who will assess applicants costume and character as well as the ability to perform witch tests.

“Wookey Hole is advertising nationally and hopes to attract a strong field of candidates, with the 50,000 pounds salary serving as a major incentive,” Medley said.

“Interviews for the post will involve on-site assessment incorporating a range or standard tasks.

“Ambitious witches, looking for a key career move, should turn up dressed for work and bring any essential witch accoutrements.

“A limited range of potion ingredients will be available.

“We are witchless at the moment so we need to get the role filled as soon as possible.

“We are looking for someone who is friendly, a little mischievous and with lots of character,” he added. (ANI)

Jobcentre advertises for host for porn TV channel

London, Jul 7 (ANI): A jobcentre looking for a candidate to host a pornographic television channel has shocked many with its advertisement.

The advert for the position of ‘Adult TV Channel Presenter’ was on the Jobcentre Plus website, and it states that the successful candidate would be required to work ‘semi-nude’.

And also that the job ‘may cause embarrassment to some people’, although it pays 220 pounds per shift.

The winning applicant will work three days a week from 9pm until 5am, but will have no pension entitlement.

“Duties involve explicit sexual dialogue which may cause embarrassment to some people,” the Telegraph quoted the advert as reading.

“The successful applicant (will be) required to be semi-nude.

“Duties will involve working on a well known adult TV channel which may cause embarrassment to some people.

“Must have good spoken communication skills as will be taking calls from the general public live on air,” it stated.

The ad for the London-based job also states that applicants have to be aged over 18.

“There is no obligation to consider making an application for this vacancy,” it added.

A spokesman for Revolver Models, which placed the ad, said that applications had to go through the Jobcentre, but said the applicant did not have to send photos of themselves to the company.

“We are looking for a male or a female to take this role,” he said.

The firm’s website also states that ‘TV work is now available’, adding: “Do you love to perform in front of a TV camera? Are you looking for a well-paid job? Are you comfortable with nudity? If the answer is yes to all of the above then contact us for more details (no sex involved).”

Sophie Randall-Price, 25, who is looking for a job and saw the advert, was a little surprised.

“I couldn’t believe when I saw this,” she said.

“I’m broad-minded, but to think they want us to apply to such a sleazy job is really a bit too much.

“I’m willing to work hard, but I’m not willing to whip my top off and talk dirty to a bunch of weirdos in the middle of the night on national TV,” she added.

A spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions said: “The Jobcentre Plus has a duty to advertise any legal job.” (ANI)

Jennifer Metcalfe mud wrestles in steamy shower gel ad

London, July 05 (ANI): Hottie Jennifer Metcalfe recently did a steamy mud wrestling scene with a Brazilian babe for new Lynx Fever shower gel advertisement.

The Hollyoaks star, who plays feisty Mercedes McQueen in the show, had revealed earlier that she has no problems being intimate with a girl, reports the News of the World.

She said: “If the script was right I would do a lesbian sex scene.”

The bombshell is satisfied with the latest stint, she said: “I enjoyed it. I managed to take my opponent down while keeping my bikini up!”

As for thrill seekers, there is no possibility of disappointment.

One source at the shoot said: “There’s only one thing sexier than Jennifer Metcalfe in a bikini – and that’s Jennifer Metcalfe rolling around in mud with another beauty.” (ANI)

Furore over Burger King’s ‘raunchy’ sandwich ad

Washington, July 1 (ANI): A print advertisement of Burger King’s sandwich in Singapore has come under fire because of its “distasteful” and unappetizing references to oral sex.

The ad for the “BK Super Seven Incher” shows the “mind-blowing” sandwich near the open mouth of a wide-eyed, red-lipsticked woman accompanied by the suggestive tagline: “It’ll blow your mind away.”

“Fill your desire for something long, juicy and flame-grilled,” Fox News quoted the ad as saying further.

The ad is a limited time promotion in Singapore-a society known around the world for its strict government controls of social conduct.

And now advertising experts have said that the ad leaves little to the imagination and should be discontinued.

Mark Duffy, a blogger and an advertising copywriter at a major New York City firm, said that the advertisement was among the “worst” he had ever seen in more than 17 years of his experience.

“I’ve seen a lot of sexual innuendo ads and this is about the worst, especially for something as mainstream as Burger King. I was a little repulsed by it. It’s really misogynistic to women and it’s also unappetizing,” said Duffy.

Duffy said that the woman’s face in the advertisement appeared to have been retouched to make it look like a doll, and that the American cheese on the sandwich seemed a little too white.

“It’s outlandish. They obviously didn’t hire a top-notch food photographer,” he said.

Duffy, who called on Burger King to terminate the ad, said: “It’s really distasteful on the appetite level and on the social level. The ad pretty much speaks for itself. How much more do they have to spell it out for you?”

Lauren Kuziner, a spokeswoman for Burger King, said that the campaign was produced by a local Singaporean agency, and not by the company’s U.S. advertising firm, Crispin Porter plus Bogusky.

“Burger King Corp. values and respects all of its guests. This print ad is running to support a limited time promotion in the Singapore market and is not running in the U.S. or any other markets. The campaign is supported by the franchisee in Singapore and has generated positive consumer sales around this limited time product offer in that market,” said Kuziner in a statement.

He, however, refused to identify the Singapore-based firm, and did not respond to requests for comment on whether Burger King had received complaints in connection with the ad. (ANI)

Eva Mendes defends her slender frame

Washington, June 30 (ANI): Eva Mendes has slammed critics for comments that her body looks thin and skeletal in her recently shot Calvin Klein Underwear advertisement campaign.

“I don’t have a starving body. I have a healthy toned body. I don’t think people should criticise my advert. I prepped for it a lot and I think it’s great. It was in the desert and we were all oiled up for it. That’s my job!” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

In the advertisement, the ‘We Own the Night’ actress poses alongside actor Jamie Dornan on a sandy beach wearing just undergarments.

The bombshell also featured in the Calvin Klein Secret Obsession advert last year in which she was seen writhing topless on a bed.

The advert was later banned after the US bosses said it was ‘too sexy’ for family viewing.

However, Mendes loved the advert, she said: “I love it. That means the ads are totally Calvin, totally provocative and a little controversial.

“In the commercial you’ll see me rolling around in bed a lot, that’s basically all I do. I have been a fan of Calvin Klein’s Obsession ads since I can remember.

“I love to feel super-feminine. I love dresses and skirts and dislike jeans. I think what makes a woman sexy is confidence.” (ANI)

Hilarious campaign makes ‘world’s worst hotel’ a hit with travellers!

Melbourne, June 25 (ANI): Owing to a rather ‘ironical’ ad campaign, an Amsterdam hotel, which claimed to be ‘the worst hotel in the world’, has become a huge hit with travellers in the city.

The campaign, by advertising agency KesselsKramer, paints the Hans Brinker budget hotel in Amsterdam as dirty, uncomfortable and lacking basic necessities such as beds.

Although the advertisers promoted the hotel in dog poo, the 650-bed hotel is attracting customers in large numbers and runs at around 80 per cent occupancy even in the low season.

The hotel’s success is fully attributed the advertising campaign, which “takes honesty to the extreme” and are “revered and reviled in equal measure”, said the company’s website.

The ads promote the hotel as “similar to hell, but without proper heating”.

Dave Bell, Creative Director and Partner at KesselsKramer, said that the hotel has found a unique selling-point.

“Everybody is always trying to be the best, but there are merits in being the worst. May be more people should strive to be the worst at something, when you’re the worst you have a lot more room to be creative and do your own thing,” News.com.au quoted Bell as saying.

In a YouTube video, the hotel promotes itself as “accidentally eco-friendly”- having a lack of services such as cleaning and elevators that are out of order means it uses less energy.

“The Hans Brinker budget hotel has been helping the planet, unintentionally, since 1970,” said one advertisement.

“Here is a hotel where the light bulbs don’t work. A hotel whose showers have less hot water than is standard. Where elevators stay out of order for days. And whose vacuum cleaners’ buttons are rarely switched on,” the hotel said in the YouTube video.

“To lessen our impact on the environment staff do as little as possible for guests. An eco-elevator ensures that the only energy spent going to the room is your own,” said a poster.

“Leave the towel on the rack. We won’t wash it. Leave the towel on the floor. We still won’t wash it,” said another poster. (ANI)
