Now US porn industry wants $5B Govt. bailout

London, January 8 (ANI): Porn baron Larry Flynt says that the US Government should help rejuvenate the industry, which has been bearing the brunt of the ongoing global economic crisis, with a financial assistance of five billion dollars.

The Hustler magazine founder has even joined forces with ‘Girls Gone Wild’ video series’ creator Joe Francis to approach Congress so as to sustain the same kind of financial aid as was recently approved for automakers.

“Congress seems willing to help shore up our nation”s most important businesses, (and) we feel we deserve the same consideration. In difficult economic times, Americans turn to entertainment for relief. More and more, the kind of entertainment they turn to is adult entertainment,” the Telegraph quoted Francis as saying in a statement

“The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three. The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine,” the paper quoted Owen Moogan, a spokesman for Flynt, as telling CNN.

Francis is also said to have admitted during an interview with the website TMZ that the move is more of a “precautionary measure” than an emergency rescue.

He, however, insisted that “as long as the government is handing out money, we want to be there to take it.”

The pair admit that though DVD sales and rentals have dropped 22 per cent over the past year, online traffic has continued to grow.

“The 13-billion-dollar industry is in no fear of collapse. But why take chances?” they say.

Flynt insists that Americans can do without cars but not without sex, and the only way Congress could “rejuvenate” the country’s sexual appetite was “by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly.”

There was no response from Congress to the request. (ANI)

Traditional fairytales deemed ”too scary” by politically correct Brit parents!

London, Jan 6 (ANI): British parents have dropped the idea of reading traditional fairytales to their children because they feel the fables are too scary and not politically correct, according to research.

All-time favourites like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella and Rapunzel are no longer being told to kids as caring parents feel that the bedtime stories could emotionally damage kids.

The poll of 3,000 British parents, by TheBabyWebsite.com, found that a third of parents refused to read Little Red Riding Hood because she walks through woods alone and finds her grandmother eaten by a wolf, the study found.

One in 10 said Snow White should be re-named because “the dwarf reference is not PC”, the research revealed.

Rapunzel was considered “too dark” and Cinderella has been dumped amid fears she is treated like a slave and forced to do all the housework, reports the Telegraph.

Sarah Pilkinton, 36, a mother-of-three from Sevenoaks, Kent, told researchers: “I loved the old fairy stories when I was growing up. I still read my children some of the classics like Sleeping Beauty and Goldilocks, but I must admit I”ve not read them The Gingerbread Man or Hansel and Gretel.

“They are both a bit scary and I remember having difficulty sleeping after being read those ones when I was little.”

Many parents said that the stories were no longer appropriate to soothe youngsters before bed, the shocking research found.

It also emerged 65 per cent of parents preferred to read their children happier tales at bedtime, such as the Mr Men, The Gruffalo and Winnie the Pooh.

Top 10 fairy tales Brit parents no longer read:

1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

2. Hansel and Gretel

3. Cinderella

4. Little Red Riding Hood

5. The Gingerbread Man

6. Jack and the Beanstalk

7. Sleeping Beauty

8. Beauty and the Beast

9. Goldilocks and the Three Bears

10. The Emperor”s New Clothes

NRI doctors to set up free clinics in INDIA, face funding problem

NRI doctors to set up free clinics in INDIA, face funding problemNew Delhi, (IANS) With plans for at least one free health care clinic in every state of India and training professionals to improve the rural health care system here, a group of NRI doctors has some big plans lined up. Funding, however, is a challenge, they admit.

On the eve of the Indo-US Healthcare summit Friday, Sanku S. Rao, president of American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), said the association will first train health care professionals in the rural setting of Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, before fanning out to other states.

AAPI, which has nearly 60,000 members in the US, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian government four years ago to help improve the health care scenario in India in association with doctors here.

“Four years back when we signed the MoU, the government of India and the state governments were very enthusiastic to work in association with us but funding posed to be a problem,” Rao said at a press conference in the capital.

“Therefore, we decided to partner with some of the non-governmental organisations for that purpose. We are also in touch with the private sector to fund some of the projects,” Rao said.

“We are going to have our experts – people who have their roots here – train health care professionals in the primary health care centres in the rural areas such that they can screen the population for diseases like diabetes, cardio vascular diseases, carcinoma of cervix and prostate, deafness in children, maternal and child health care and mental illness,” he added.

Each disease will have a physician as a team leader who will be responsible for implementation of the programme.

“At present AAPI has free health care clinics in 17 places in India, which include Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab and Karnataka. We want to step that up and go to every state in the country,” Rao said.

“We also work with various agencies to fight AIDS here,” he added.

Saying that they will form a strategic planning committee which will draw their action plan for the next five years and give recommendations on which AAPI will act, Rao said that regular reviewing of those trained in the primary health care centers will be done so that people actually benefit from the services.

The two-day Indo-US health care summit, which begins Saturday, will see more than 150 organisations participate, including the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Medical Council of India (MCI).

“We don’t want to just talk and let things look good on the paper. Implementation is the mist important factor and we will work towards that,” Rao said.

Poor math skills costing Brit taxpayers £2.4bn a year

London, Jan 5 (ANI): Lack of basic mathematical skills is costing British taxpayers nearly 2.4bn pounds a year, according to a new report.

The study led by the KPMG Foundation has estimated that around seven million UK adults have at best the maths ability of a nine-year-old.

Children, who fail to master basic math skills, face exclusion from school, truancy, health risks like depression.

Such children are also more likely to remain unemployed, and indulge in criminal activities as adults.

Legal costs alone cost the taxpayer 164.8m pounds a year in court appearances and jail terms.

The report said that people with very low numeracy skills are two to three times more likely to live in a household where both partners do not have jobs.

“The research suggests that numeracy difficulties play a distinctive role in restricting opportunities throughout life,” the Independent quoted the report as saying.

“Competent numeracy would thus appear not only important in relation to employability and the economy but also as a protective factor in maintaining social cohesion,” the report added.

The report further said that women were more likely to admit to difficulties with maths than men because they were more honest.

Almost 18 per cent of the women with poor numeracy skills classified as suffering from depression compared to 11 per cent of men.

While those over 55s are likely to be the best placed to tackle maths, 25 to 34-year-olds are the least confident.

The report suggests that concentrated effort to identify people facing difficulty in maths by the age of seven, could save up to 1.6 billion pounds.

It also urges businesses to contribute towards a drive to improve maths provision.

Barclays Bank has become the first company to back the maths drive – pledging 1.2m pounds to send employees into at least 150 schools to help teach maths. (ANI)

‘Detox’ products just waste of money duds: Study

London, Jan 5 (ANI): Despite a lack of scientific evidence, consumers are being misled into believing ‘detox’ products actually work, a new British study has warned.

The investigation, done by research members of the Voice of Young Science network, revealed that many detox claims were ‘meaningless’.

The study suggested that anyone wanting to counter the effects of festive over-indulgence would be better off relying on a few age-old remedies – easing off the alcohol, eating sensibly, exercising and getting a good night”s sleep.

The researchers challenged the companies behind products such as vitamins, shampoo, detox patches and a body brush on the evidence they had to support the detox claims made.

They found that no two companies seemed to use the same definition of detox – officially defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as the removal of toxic substances or qualities.

The researchers said that in the majority of cases, producers and retailers were forced to admit that they had simply renamed processes like cleaning or brushing, as detox.

One researcher investigated a Garnier face wash, which claimed to detoxify the skin by removing toxins. She found that the ‘toxins’ turned out to be the dirt, make-up and skin oils that any cleanser would be expected to remove.

A five-day detox plan from Boots, which claimed to detoxify the body and flush away toxins, was also criticised for not being backed by evidence.

Evelyn Harvey, a biologist who looked into the product, suggested that if consumers followed the healthy diet that was recommended alongside the supplement they would probably feel better – but it would have nothing to do with the product itself.

The researchers also warned that, some detox diets could in fact have dangerous consequences and were a waste of money.

“The minimum sellers of detox products should be able to offer is a clear understanding of what detox is and proof that their product actually works. The people we contacted could do neither,” BBC quoted Tom Wells, a chemist who took part in the research, as saying. (ANI)

Brit man dressed as Norse God Thor scares off burglar!

London, Jan 2 (ANI): A man dressed as Norse god ‘Thor’ for a New Year party scared off a burglar who was trying to break-in his house.

Torvald Alexander, 38, a construction firm manager, was returning home wearing a red cape and the thunder god”s silver-winged helmet when he caught the burglar red handed during the break in.

He said the burglar threw himself out of a first floor window after seeing him.

“As soon as he saw me his eyes went wide with terror,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

“He looked like he had had a few drinks and decided to do a late night break in, but he hadn”t counted on the God of Thunder living here,” he added.

Alexander revealed that he decided to dress as the Norse God of Thunder for the fancy dress party because they both have names of Norwegian origin.

“I had just got back from a fancy dress New Year”s party and because I have a Norwegian name I decided to go as Thor.

“It took ages making the cape, helmet and breast plate, and I must admit it was a bit chilly walking home, but when I saw that guy I just went mad and charged at him, my cape flying behind me.

“I think if I had had Thor”s hammer with me I might have scared him to death,” he added.

The burglar had not managed to steal anything, but had left his shoes at the scene.

“He had obviously taken off his shoes to creep about in silence, but when he saw me he just jumped out of the window in his socks.”

“It will make him think again before breaking into other people”s homes. Hopefully it”s taught him a lesson,” said Alexander. (ANI)

Log on to mydaughter.co.uk to unlock your teenage daughter’s secrets!

London: Teenage girls and their temper are some of the biggest mysteries for parents, therefore, in a bid to solve the enigma, headmistresses of Britain’s leading girls’ school have launched a new website called mydaughter. co. uk.

Created by the Girls’ School Association (GSA), the My Daughter website will be open to all parents, and not just those with daughters at the GSA’s fee-paying schools.

The site will provide tips and advice provided directly from the GSA’s 200 headmistresses on topics that include— how to realise your daughter’s full academic potential, dealing with bullying, recognising eating disorders, use of social networking sites, friendships and how to communicate with your daughter.

The website will be launched in January after a speech next week by Vicky Tuck, of Cheltenham Ladies’ College, the GSA’s president.

Tuck thinks that Britain’s top head mistresses are perfectly placed to dispense such advice.

“We have had thousands of teenage girls pass through our care, as teachers and headmistresses. There’s not much that we do not know about dealing with girls and certainly nothing they could do that could surprise us,” Times Online quoted her as saying.

Tuck said that the advice on the website will not only help parents, but would benefit the nation as a whole.

“Every organisation could do with a headmistress. As leaders, we are not interested in status or massaging our egos – what we want is to influence what happens and to get things done efficiently. As women, we are great multitaskers and list-makers and we are very systematic. As head teachers, we have to act with great moral authority and clarity as well as sensitivity,” said Tuck.

Tuck is hopeful that the site will appeal particularly to fathers, who often feel that their teenage daughters live in a parallel universe, but are too afraid to admit it.

Some of the top tips on dealing with your daughter offered on the website are:

1. It is unrealistic to expect your teenage daughter to be happy all the time: she’s on a journey, some turbulence is inevitable

2. Make sure she knows you love her for who she is, not for what you want her to become

3. Don’t expect your daughter to tell you everything. You’re not her best friend

4. Don’t automatically believe her when she says: “Everyone else is allowed to”

5. And the parent who says: “I know my daughter and she would never, ever lie to me,” the only answer is “Get real!” (ANI)

3 More Die Of Dengue In West Bengal

3 More Die Of Dengue In West BengalThe vector borne diseases in the state capital has claimed one more life on Friday, while two others succumbed in Howrah and South 24 Parganas.

Kishore Roy (50), a resident of 47/2A, Nandaram Sen Street in Ward 9, died of nasty malaria at Marwari Relief Society Hospital on Friday morning.

However, senior officials of Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s health department refused to admit that Roy had died due to malaria.

Commenting over Roy’s death, Chief Municipal Health Officer (CMHO) Deb Dwaipayan Chattopadhay said, “He was infected with malaria in Bihar but died in Kolkata. He has several other complications and malaria is not only the reason of his death.” He said that the authorities are doing their best to control the disease. But it was still spreading.

However, the blood tests conducted at a local malaria health clinic confirmed the presence of plasmodium falciparum in Roy’s blood.

With Roy’s death, the death toll of vector-borne diseases, including ‘unknown fever’ deaths, reached to over 30 in the city. The situation is deteriorating with each passing day.

In Howrah, a Lakshmi Kanta Hazra (41), a resident of Haat Lane in Ward 27 of the Howrah Municipal Corporation, was admitted to a north Kolkata nursing home with malignant malaria a couple of days ago, died on Friday morning.

In South 24 Parganas, Amar Patra (35), a resident of Kulpi, died of dengue in the SSKM hospital. He had been suffering from high fever for the last few days. The blood report confirmed the presence of the dengue germ. Speaking on this, CMHO Sachhidananda Sarkar said, “I am yet to receive the reports of the health centre, where the blood sample of the deceased was tested.”

According to a report, nearly 600 people have been affected by the virus while four have died in the state.
