Helen Mirren, Sophia Loren in ‘World’s Top 10 Most Beautiful Women’ list

London, May 10 (ANI): They are old, but still beautiful. Veteran actresses Helen Mirren, Catherine Deneuve and Sophia Loren have made it to the list of ‘World’s Top 10 Most Beautiful Women’.

Clothing firm Wizard Jeans came up with the rankings after assessing media and photo coverage, attracted by famous women, over the past year.

Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, 36, topped the list, while Claudia Schiffer, who turns 40 in August, came second.

Meanwhile, French star Deneuve, 67, found the fifth spot and Dame Helen Mirren, 65, came sixth.

Also, Italian Sophia Loren, 76, was in tenth place as the oldest beauty in the league.

“As someone once said, the difference between pretty and beautiful is that pretty is temporal, whereas beautiful is eternal,” the Daily Express quoted Sally Allen from the firm, as saying. (ANI)

Penelope Cruz admits she wants kids in future

London, September 13 (ANI): Oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz has finally revealed her secret “baby desire”.

The star, whose animated Disney film ‘G-Force’ hits the big screen later this month, has admitted that she wants to have children in future.

Her confession comes at a time when she is rumoured to be pregnant with her current beau Javier Bardem’s child.

“Of course I want to have my own kids, as well as adopt some. I love children and I have a tendency to become a mother to everyone around me. I believe in family, love and children and my life wouldn’t be complete without children,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

Although unconfirmed, rumours that the happy couple were expecting their first child started in early August, when Cruz was pictured on some red carpets looking tired, and sporting what could be a baby bump.

Cruz refused to comment on the rumour. (ANI)

The 24-year-old will appear in the autumn-winter 2009 campaign, taking over from Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, who has been representing the brand for the past four seasons, reported telegraph.co.uk.

Before Johansson and Cruz, models Milla Jovovich, Lizzy Jagger, Naomi Campbell, Eva Herzigova and Claudia Schiffer have done advertising campaigns for Mango.

Penelope Cruz left bruised after burlesque routine in ‘Nine’ trailer

New York, May 16 (ANI): Spanish actress Penelope Cruz has revealed that she ended having sore limbs when she had to do a burlesque routine for the trailer of the musical ‘Nine’.

The 35-year-old star, who strips down to stockings and a bustier in the musical, had to take dance classes for months to prepare for the raunchy routine, which left her battered and bruised at the end.

“I couldn’t stop crying,” the New York Daily News quoted her as telling the Daily Mail earlier this year.

According to the Sun, Cruz went through quite an ordeal while performing in the musical, which also stars Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Black Eyed Peas star Fergie and Daniel Day-Lewis.

“When something like that happens, you just have to keep going and forget about any physical pain,” she said.

“I was dancing in the dark with just one spotlight on me so I had to be extremely alert,” she added. (ANI)

Washington, Apr 10 (ANI): Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz has revealed that she was left baffled while filming ‘Elegy’ with her co-actor Sir Ben Kingsley, as she didn’t know how to address him.

The ‘Vanilla Sky’ actress said that she was baffled when she was asked to refer to him with his full name.

Thus, she tried to find ways to avoid saying his name only in a bid to be more comfortable.

“Somebody told me at the beginning, ‘You have to call him Sir Ben.’ And I asked, ‘Who said that?’ So on the first day I decided never to say his name and to see what came out naturally. I would say ‘Excuse me,’ or ‘Hi,’ or something but not his name. Then the ‘Sir’ just came out. After that I couldn’t call him anything else,” Contactmusic quoted her as saying. (ANI)

London, April 7 (ANI): Charlize Theron’s fans will get to see her a lot more onscreen, all thanks to a new film ‘The Burning Plain’.

In the flick, the actress has shown off her twin assets while dressed in a bathrobe and wet hair.

The film is the directorial debut of Guillermo Arrigadrama and also stars actor Kim Basinger, reports the Sun.

This is, however, not the first time the Oscar-winning actress has peeled off onscreen.

New Delhi, Mar 16 (ANI): Actress Penelope Cruz has confessed that she’s in love with the Irish stout-Guinness.

The ‘Princess Diaries’ star has revealed that she’s a big Guinness fan, but gets tipsy after a single serving only, reports the China Daily.

“I really like Guinness. I always drink it straight from the bottle. I have a lot of Irish friends and they introduced me to it. Although I like it if I have one I’m drunk!” she said.

However, the 34-year-old Spanish actress isn’t the only Hollywood beauty to have an unlikely penchant for Guinness.

Gwyneth Paltrow is also partial to downing a few pints of the black stout when she has night off from motherhood duties. (ANI)

Penelope Cruz in talks to star in ‘Into the World’

Washington, Mar 14 (ANI): Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz is in talks to star in Italian director Sergio Castellitto’s film ‘Venuto al Mondo’ (Into the World).

Castellitto’s film “Don’t Move” gave Cruz her first career-making role in 2004.

“We’re starting to talk but I can’t confirm anything concrete as yet,” Variety quoted Cruz as saying.

The film about a single mother, to be played by Cruz, is based on the novel written by Castellitto’s wife, Margaret Mazzantini.

Castellitto’s producers, Roberto Cicutto and Luigi Musini, are currently putting together finance on “World.” (ANI)

Penelope Cruz turns blonde for new flick

Washington, Mar 11 (ANI): Spanish actress Penelope Cruz has turned into a blonde for her role in the upcoming drama ‘Los Abrazos Rotos’.

Director Pedro Almodovar has revealed that he did not want the actress’ trademark dark and dishevelled hairstyle for the film.

Instead, he opted for a sleek platinum blonde wig – and even managed to convince Cruz to squeeze into a red latex minidress and fishnet tights to complete her dramatic metamorphosis.

“Before beginning the tests for my film I had already decided to avoid the dishevelled styles, inspired by Sophia Loren, which suit Penelope so well. After seeing the photo from Vicky Cristina Barcelona, I was even more convinced about my decision,” Contactmusic quoted Almodovar, as saying.

“I want to try not to repeat hairstyles that Penelope has worn in other films. I really enjoy reinventing her, discovering the number of characters that reside within our beautiful and versatile leading lady,” Almodovar added. (ANI)

Washington, Feb 24 (ANI): Spanish actress Penelope Cruz has revealed that the dress she wore during the Oscars had been picked out eight years ago.

Cruz, 34, said that the vintage Balmain gown she wore on February 22 had never been worn, and that she had kept it for a special occasion.

When Cruz arrived at the event, where she picked up her Best Supporting Actress award, she was seen wearing the 60-year-old dress.

Penelope Cruz ruffles Tom Cruise’s feathers at pre-Oscar party

New York, Feb 24 (ANI): American actor Tom Cruise was seen having an awkward moment while talking to his ex, Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, at Creative Artists Agency head Bryan Lourd’s house party on February 20.

According to reports, Cruise was talking with MGM head Mary Parent and producer John Goldwyn in Lourd’s living room when Cruz approached him.

“Penelope tapped him on the shoulder and timidly asked, ‘Tom?’” the New York Post quoted a source as saying.

“Tom turned around, got visibly flustered and awkwardly said, ‘Oh, hey. Hi,’ and gave her a small, distant hug before turning back around to his friends. It was weird,” the source added.

The two of them dated for three years before their relationship came to an end in January 2004. (ANI)

Slumdog Millionaire becomes 4th highest Oscar-winning flick with 8 awards

Washington, Feb 23 (ANI): Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire has become the fourth film along with Gandhi to get the highest number of Oscar awards.

The film, which tracks the journey of an 18-year-old boy from rags-to-riches, won eight Oscars out of the 10 categories it was nominated for.

The flick has not only earned the Best Director gong for Danny Boyle, but also the Best Film award.

It also bagged awards for Original score, Original song, Film Editing, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, and Best Sound Mixing.

Kate Winslet and Sean Penn walked away with the top honours for Best Actress and Actor for ‘The Reader’ and ‘Milk’ respectively.

Actor Health Ledger was honoured with the posthumous Oscar in the Supporting Actor for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

Penelope Cruz won the Best Supporting actor gong for Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Penelope Cruz is Woody Allen’s fan

London, Feb 19 (ANI): Spanish actress Penelope Cruz has joined director Woody Allen’s actress fan club, which includes her ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ co-star Scarlett Johansson.

Cruz, who is tipped for an Oscar as best supporting actress for Allen’s ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’, says that she loved working for the New York director, for he has a way of making his actors feel really comfortable.

“I only met Woody for one minute, then I was told that I had passed the audition,” Penelope gushed at a recent London awards bash,” the Daily Express quoted Cruz, as saying.

“That was it. When we started work I did all my scenes in four weeks, no rehearsal, everything in two takes.

“I loved it and although I always prefer working in Spanish, I felt really relaxed in English for the first time.

“He has a way of making his actors feel really free,” she added. (ANI)

Penelope Cruz worked herself to ‘exhaustion’ in the past

London, Feb 7 (ANI): Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz, who began her journey to Hollywood at the tender age of 15, has revealed that she worked herself up to exhaustion when she was new to the film industry.

The ‘Vanilla Sky’ actress, who has been nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Woody Allen’s ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’, has revealed that after accomplishing herself as an artist, and overcoming her struggle with flying colors, she now feels more content as a human being.

“I’ve worked myself to exhaustion in the past,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying.

“But now my life feels more balanced. Once my life was all about work, yet now I do take time for myself. It was a hard lesson to learn that sometimes it is so much healthier to say no even to a role that you like,” she added.

Cruz is all set to appear in a Spanish-language thriller, Broken Embraces, her fourth collaboration with filmmaker Pedro Almodovar.

Penelope Cruz bags Best Supporting Actress gong at Goya awards

London, Feb 3 (ANI): Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz has walked away with a gong for Best Supporting Actress for ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ at Spain’s prestigious Goya awards.

Overwhelmed at receiving the gong, Cruz thanked director Woody Allen in her acceptance speech.

“I’ve always been a great fan of Woody Allen. Thank you Woody for believing in me,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

Puerto Rican star Del Toro walked away with the Best Actor award for his performance as Cuban revolutionary leader Che Guevara, in the biopic Che.

The best film award went to Camino, which tells the story of the Opus Dei religious order.

The picture garnered six awards, including Best Film, Best Director for Javier Fesser and Best Actress for Carme Elias. (ANI)

Penelope Cruz to leave ‘movie-obsessed’ Los Angeles

London, Jan 27 (ANI): Actress Penelope Cruz is so fed up of ‘movie-obsessed’ Los Angeles that she’s preparing for a move to New York.

The ‘Vanilla Sky’ star says that she feels ‘very alone’ in Hollywood and now wants to divide her time between the Big Apple and her birthplace of Madrid, Spain, where her family resides.

“After a number of years in Los Angeles, I no longer want to live here,” the Daily Star quoted her, as saying.

“It will be better if I share my time between New York and Madrid, where my family is,” she added.

The actress has named Woody Allen, director of ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’, as one of her favourite New Yorkers.

Washington, Jan 15 (ANI): Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz revealed that she was delighted when veteran filmmaker Woody Allen gifted her one of his trademark glasses.

The ‘Vanilla Sky’ actress revealed that she was touched when Allen gave her his glasses as a memento during the filming of ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’.

“Actually I got a souvenir. I got his glasses as a present,” Contactmusic quoted Penelope, as telling Brit Total Film magazine.

Penelope admitted that she was elated by Allen’s gesture as he gifted her one of his personal belongings.

“And it’s my treasure. I love those glasses. He only has two pairs and he gave me one pair,” Penelope added.
