Michael Douglas’ son to mop, wash dishes in jail

New York, May 21 (ANI): Actor Michael Douglas’ son Cameron could land the job of moping or washing dishes for pennies an hour at a minimum-security Pennsylvania lockup.

A source told RadarOnline that Cameron, 31, is “doing fine” at the federal penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pa., where he has to stay until December 16, 2013, as per Bureau of Prison records, reports the New York Post.

Cameron will soon be toiling away for a paltry 12 to 40 cents an hour, a prison spokesman said.

It is not clear what job he will be doing, but it could be anything from food services to janitorial work, plumbing, painting, grounds keeping or electrical work.

In his spare time, he can take advantage of the various penitentiary activities, such as biking, tabletop games, bead making, crocheting, softball or basketball. (ANI)

Michael Douglas praises Shia LaBeouf’s acting skills

London, May 18 (ANI): Actor Michael Douglas, who admits that he had doubts about actor Shia LaBeouf being able to carry off his role in the new Wall Street movie, has lavished praise on the Transformers star.

Douglas, 65, who won an Oscar for his role as Gordon Gekko in the 1987 film, did not think LaBeouf, 23, “had the chops” to carry the role as well as his former co-star Charlie Sheen.

“Shia, honestly, we were all not sure about whether he had the chops,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

“As you remember from the first, Charlie Sheen carried the movie, Gordon Gekko had very colourful parts but it was not every scene,” he recalled.

But after watching LaBeouf acting the part, Douglas figured the young actor has nailed it.

“He knocked it out of the park. I’m so proud of him, he just kicked butt,” he added. (ANI)

Michael Douglas convinced prison will save son’s life

London, May 4 (ANI): Actor Michael Douglas has revealed in an interview that had his son Cameron not been sent to prison he would have lost him to drugs.

Cameron, 31, had been detained on drugs charges last year following a police raid on his New York hotel room.

He was handed a five-year jail term last month after pleading guilty to charges of methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and one count of possession of cocaine in January (10).

Douglas, 65, is convinced that the time his son spends behind bars will help him to rebuild his life.

“My son has not been sober for this length of time since he was 13 years old,” the Daily Star quoted him as America’s Today show.

“So he was going to be dead or somebody was gonna kill him, and I think he has a chance to start a new life and he knows that.

“And from my understanding, it’s going to take that amount of time for him to rebuild and start himself afresh.

“He’s a great young man. And I wouldn’t be supporting him if I didn’t feel that way,” he added. (ANI)

Michael Douglas” son gets 5yrs in prison for drug trafficking

New York, April 21 (ANI): Actor Michael Douglas’s son has been sentenced to five years in jail for drug trafficking.

Cameron Douglas was arrested last year at the trendy Gansevoort Hotel in New York. He pleaded guilty to drugs charges in January.

Federal Judge Richard Berman ruled on the side of leniency, sending the 31-year-old to just five years behind bars rather than the minimum of 10 under federal sentencing guidelines.

Prosecutors said the judge didn”t have to impose the minimum sentence, reports the New York Post.

With his actor father present in the crowded Manhattan courtroom, the judge said Douglas will serve only four years since he will get credit for the eight months he has spent in lockup since his arrest.

In court, Cameron apologized to his family and said that he was grateful for the chance to clean up his life.

“First, I”d like to apologize to my family … for my behavior. … I”d like to ask you for the opportunity to be a productive family member and a good role model,” he said.

Cameron will also have to pay a 25,000-dollar fine, serve 450 hours of community service once he is released and undergo weekly counselling sessions, including with members of his family. (ANI)

Douglas” lawyers were trying to close the drug-dealing deejay”s April 20 sentencing.

However, media organizations were against it.

And now, Manhattan Federal Judge Richard Berman is keeping the courtroom open, reports The New York Daily News.

Douglas pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute crystal meth— a charge that carries a minimum 10-year sentence.

His famous relatives – including grandpa Kirk Douglas and stepmom Catherine Zeta-Jones – are saying that he deserves drug rehab, not jail.

“It’s an interesting issue with all of these troubles that are going on… and trying to resolve things. It’s an interesting thing that’s being raised again,” Contactmusic quoted Michael, as saying.

“I’m questioning it. We’re trying to get a lot of money for health and education and I’m wondering… you look at these gangs, and I look back at Prohibition. When we didn’t allow alcohol, what did we have? We had gangs. We had big gangs. It’s something that needs to be discussed a little more. It’s an economic issue and a violence issue,” Michael added.
