Pak police kills militant wanted in Iran consulate official’s murder

Peshawar, May 12 (ANI): The Peshawar police has killed an alleged militant wanted over terror attacks, including last year’s murder of an official with the Iranian consulate, officials said.

Sources told Daily Times that Amanullah, a resident of Badhber village, was travelling in a car in the Sheikhabad area when police flagged him down but he made a run for it.

However, local police chief Liaquat Ali told a foreign news agency that police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid on a house in the provincial metropolis where Amanullah had been hiding.

A gun battle broke out and Amanullah was killed, he said, adding that two police officials were wounded in the clash, which lasted for about half an hour. (ANI)

Minister defends Hine inquiry timing

The Tasmanian Government has defended its decision to investigate a code of conduct complaint against the Acting Police Commissioner more than five months after the allegations were made.

A retired Federal Court Justice will investigate the complaints made by a retired Commissioner Richard McCreadie.

They relate to the failed prosecution of former Commissioner Jack Johnston and the Premier David Bartlett’s aborted attempt to reinstate Mr McCreadie while the case was dealt with.

Minister Lin Thorp says the permanent position of Police Commissioner can not be be advertised until the complaints are resolved.

“I had intended to start the advertising for the permanent position of Commissioner of Police for Tasmania and, of course, Acting Commissioner Hine deserves procedural fairness,” Ms Thorp said.

“To that end I’ll wait and see what the result of this inquiry into code of conduct charges comes up.”

Forest union expects FEA jobs to stay

Unionists are confident there will not be any job losses at the troubled Tasmanian forest company, Forest Enterprises Australia.

But Windermere MLC and former policeman, Ivan Dean, says that is not what he has been hearing from some officers.

“I thought that these police officers were being accommodated but it certainly obviously isn’t happening on what I’m now hearing and that is certainly extremely upsetting,” he said.

“No wonder police officers simply have that attitude and that feeling that they’re not being supported.”

Judy Moran acted oddly at murder scene: witness

The Melbourne Magistrates Court has heard Judy Moran was acting unnaturally and oddly when she arrived at the scene of her brother-in-law’s murder.

Judy Moran is one of four people accused of the murder of Des Moran, who was shot dead in an Ascot Vale cafe last year.

The witness told the committal hearing that Judy Moran arrived at the murder scene within 15 minutes.

She told the court that after Judy Moran arrived, another woman commented that it was funny how quickly word spread about the murder.

The woman also told the court Judy Moran did not try to go near the cafe where her brother-in-law was shot.

“I couldn’t work out why she was walking around near the police and not going to the Ascot Vale Deli,” she said.

She thought Judy Moran was acting oddly when she ran over to police as they cordoned the area.

“She bent over, put her head down and seemed to be crying and carrying on, stamping her feet.”

Three others have been charged with the murder including Suzanne Kane, 46, Geoff Armour, 44, and Michael Farrugia, 45.
