“Fear factor” fired me to score more frequently for Chelsea, says Lampard

London, Aug 22(ANI): Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has said that the fear of being sold or knocked out of The Blues fired him up to score more frequently.

Lampard equalled Jimmy Greaves record in the club’s all time goal charts, when he scored a penalty in the 3-1 victory over Sunderland last Tuesday, taking his goals tally to 132 in his eight-year career at the club.

The 31-year-old further admitted that he never dreamed of such a strike rate when he first arrived in west London, but knew that he had to up his game when Roman Abramovich took control of the club in 2003.

“Abramovich’s first year was a big year for me, I started to score more frequently. I think it was the fear factor a bit as no one knew whether they would be sold or knocked out of the team,” The Sun quoted Lampard, as saying.

“I really took it on board,” he added.

Lampard achieved his feat in 429 matches, since joining Chelsea from West Ham United in 2001.

“It is a great honour to be up there with Jimmy Greaves, one of the all-time great goalscorers. I’m very proud. I would not have imagined I’d have got to that level when I came to Chelsea,” Lampard said.

“I’ve got my eye on who is above me. Peter Osgood and Roy Bentley are 150 – not that I’ve been looking at the stats! Kerry Dixon is 193 and Bobby Tambling is 202. That feels a long way off but I’ll keep plugging away,” he added.

Lampard has scored many memorable goals for the team, but his all-time favourite remains the strike which helped Chelsea win the 2005 Premier League title.

“My favourite goal was the one that won us the league at Bolton. It wasn’t technically the best, but it was such a special one for me and the club. I watch it now and again and when I do, it gives e shivers,” he said. (ANI)

Is Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich’s girlfriend pregnant?

New York, Aug 19 (ANI): Rumours are rife that Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich’s girlfriend Dasha Zhukova is pregnant.

A source has revealed that 28-year-old Zhukova is almost six months pregnant, “but still very active”.

“She and Roman were at the U2 concert at Wembley over the weekend as well as the first match of the new Chelsea (soccer) season,” the New York Post quoted the source as saying.

Zhukova, editor of London’s Pop magazine, has her first issue coming out soon, and her museum, The Garage, is a key venue for the Moscow Art Biennale, which kicks off next month. (ANI)

Terry demands showdown talks with Chelsea owner Abramovich

London, July 8 (ANI): England and Chelsea captain John Terry is demanding showdown talks with club owner Roman Abramovich over his future.

According to The Sun, Terry is furious nobody at the club has spoken to him since Manchester City tabled a 30-million-pound bid last week.

Terry, 28, feels insulted by the Stamford Bridge silence.

“It’s unbelievable – even though he’s the club captain and one of the Blues’ most important players, senior management at the club haven’t once tried to talk to him. John wants to know what’s going on and, more importantly, whether Chelsea actually want to keep him or cash in while they have a chance,” an insider said.

Terry takes home 20,000-pounds-a-week less than his England teammate Frank Lampard (151,000-pounds-a-week).

Big-spending City are prepared to give the Three Lions skipper the wages he believes he deserves and are desperate to make him the bedrock of their new-look side.

Terry has played 272 games for Chelsea and scored 17 goals in 11 senior years at the club. (ANI)

Deco to leave Chelsea

London, June 28 (ANI): Chelsea midfielder Deco has confirmed that he wants to leave ‘the Blues’, following his differences with decisions taken by club owner Roman Abramovich.

“Chelsea is kind of his (Roman Abramovich) toy. Sometimes Abramovich makes decisions that go over the head of the director of football,” The Sun quoted Deco, as saying.

The Portuguese star also criticised Chelsea for chucking Luiz Felipe Scolari.

“The exit of Big Phil was rash. Chelsea is a special club. . If Big Phil was perhaps at Manchester United or Liverpool, they respect the coach and give him time to work. But Chelsea is different,” said Deco.

“Honestly, I did not like the experience at Chelsea. I’m looking for another club where I can feel good,” he added. (ANI)

Chelsea to launch 50 million pound bid for Torres

London, June 21 (ANI): Chelsea is ready to test Liverpool’s resolve with a 50 million pound bid for Fernando Torres.

Carlo Ancelotti has already targeted Torres’ Spain strike partner David Villa, offering Valencia 35 million pound.

Now, the Blues boss is ready to make an audacious attempt to unite Villa and Torres at club level. iverpool manager Rafa Benitez will do all he can to block the move. But he is worried the huge sum offered by Chelsea could tempt American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

Liverpool’s true financial state will be revealed over the coming weeks and Benitez is beginning to fear the worst, The Sun reports.

At the end of the season Benitez was hopeful of landing 27-year-old Villa. Now he not only has to face up to Chelsea signing Villa, but also targeting Torres.

Villa’s proposed move to Real Madrid has not gone through because Chelsea’s bid is 4 million pound higher and is preferred by debt- ridden Valencia.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to take advantage of Liverpool’s own money worries by making the sort of offer he hopes Gillett and Hicks will not be able to refuse.t is understood a tentative inquiry was made by a third party in April about how much it would cost to prise Torres away from Anfield.

The message from Liverpool at the time was that there was no chance of Torres being sold. Then in May the 25-year-old striker signed an improved deal to 2013.

If necessary, Ancelotti and Abramovich will settle for just landing Villa. But if there is even an outside chance of snatching Torres away from Anfield, they will take it. (ANI)

Chelsea to spend 18.6 million pounds to snare Russian star Yuri Zhirkov

London, May 30 (ANI): Chelsea has agreed to splash out 18.6 million pounds for Russia star Yuri Zhirkov.

Sun Sport had revealed in March this year that coach Guus Hiddink had recommended the 25 year old, dubbed the Russian Ronaldinho, to Blues owner Roman Abramovich.

Zhirkov’s agent yesterday claimed a four-year deal was signed two days ago and that the CSKA Moscow star will move to Stamford Bridge later this summer.

The left winger, who can also play at left-back, has yet to complete a medical.

And while the details of the contract have been agreed, it has not yet been signed.

Under Hiddink’s advice, Chelsea will look to clear out several players this summer – including Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou. (ANI)

Hiddink asks Abramovich not to hit Drogba with heavy punishment

London, May 10 (ANI): Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink has appealed to club owner Roman Abramovich not to hit Didier Drogba with a heavy punishment for his hounding of Champions League referee Tom Henning Ovrebo.

Chelsea have already decided to make the controversial Drogba available this summer, if the right offer comes in, after his antics at the end of their Champions League semi-final defeat against Barcelona, The Daily Express reports.

But Hiddink, set to rest Drogba for London derby with Arsenal because he does not believe his key striker is mentally ready, is adamant he should not also be handed a club fine.

Drogba, Michael Ballack and Chelsea themselves will next week almost certainly be given hefty UEFA bans and fines for their angry protests to Ovrebo on Wednesday, after he denied them at least two clear penalties.

Hiddink does not want Drogba further disillusioned by internal measures when he needs him firing on all cylinders for Chelsea’s last chance of honours in the FA Cup final against Everton on May 30.

That is set to be the final game at the club for both, with Hiddink returning to Russia and Marseille desperate to bring Drogba back.

Hiddink said: “It is up to me and the board whether he is disciplined or not, but I don’t think so. He has already apologised publicly, and that is a big step. We have to move on. His future is not up to me.” (ANI)

Rooney warns of Man U monopolising all major football prizes

London, May 7 (ANI): Ace striker Wayne Rooney, who feared he might have to endure years of Chelsea domination after joining Manchester United in 2004, has warned the football world that it is United, not Blues or Liverpool, who will continue to monopolise the major prizes.

In the aftermath of Manchester United’s thrilling destruction of Arsenal at the Emirates, Rooney said: “This team is only going to get better.”

Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad rebuilding between 2003 and 2006 has paid off spectacularly in the last three seasons, as United have won successive Premier League titles and conquered Europe, the Daily Express reports.

Rooney admitted he feared the worst after his 30million pounds move from Everton five years ago.

“Once Abramovich went into Chelsea and all that money was pumped into them and they won the league two years running, it looked hard to beat them. But thankfully we stopped them from winning the league for a third year running and from there we’ve really kicked on.

“Over the last couple of seasons some of the football we’ve played has been brilliant and if we can reproduce some of that over the next couple of years we can get even better,” Rooney said.

“This team is a lot better than the one I joined in 2004. I was only 18 then; Cristiano was the same age, Fletch was a year older. We had a lot of young players then, but over the last few years we’ve gained the experience.

“The strength of the squad has improved considerably as well. Look at our bench for the game at Arsenal – we had players like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov sat there. It was unbelievable,” he added.

Rooney revealed that it was United’s top priority in August to become the first team to win back-to-back Champions League titles. “We set out to retain the title and be the first team to do it. We’re so close now and it would be amazing if we can pull it off.” (ANI)

Hiddink warns Chelsea stars to play for their future

London, May 5 (ANI): Guus Hiddink has warned his Chelsea stars that they are playing for their future, and insisted that he will not be hoodwinked by one decent game even if it against Barcelona tomorrow.

At least six big names of the club are under the spotlight with Nicolas Anelka, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou and Deco most at risk. Chelsea plan to sell this summer to fund new signings, while other contracts will not be renewed.

Even though boss Hiddink may not be staying beyond the end of this month, he will have a big say on who remains at Stamford Bridge, The Sun reports.

The Dutchman meets with owner Roman Abramovich over the next two weeks and the Blues’ performance against Barca in their Champions League semi-final second leg is bound to influence his decision.

“There are, in many clubs, some players who start playing very well in April and May as they know that decisions will be made at the end of the season. You can see that in the whole history of the game. All of a sudden, you see players coming up in these times.

“But, generally speaking, even if players’ contracts are expiring, at a big club you must have this responsibility to deliver. I can have an influence on these players. Not on the people who decide in this club – but I will always make suggestions,” Hiddink said.

Chelsea, who also have the FA Cup final with Everton on the horizon, believe Anelka, Malouda, Kalou and Deco are the most saleable players – as well as being dispensable.

Anelka is the club’s top league scorer but, with Didier Drogba returning to form and fitness, his place in the team is no longer guaranteed. (ANI)

Chelsea to make 40 million pound bid for Villa

London, Apr 10 (ANI): Chelsea is set to make an astonishing 40 million pound bid for David Villa.

The Spainish striker is cash-strapped Valencia’s prize asset and billionaire Blues owner Roman Abramovich is ready to test their resolve, The Sun reports.

Villa, 27, was four-goal top scorer in Euro 2008 as Spain lifted the trophy and has been linked with a move to Manchester City.

But Abramovich is desperate for a high profile signing this summer and is sure the lure of Champions League football will be enough to beat City in the race for Villa.

The star’s contract does not expire until 2014, but reports in Spain suggested that La Liga outfit Valencia were struggling to pay their players.

Selling Villa and highly rated winger David Silva could solve their issues. (ANI)

Ancelotti ready to take over as Chelsea’s new coach

London, Apr 9 (ANI): AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has told Chelsea that he is ready to take over from stopgap boss Guus Hiddink.

Ancelotti has promised Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich that he is willing to join the club this summer, The Sun reported.

Ancelotti was the Blues owner’s first choice to replace Phil Scolari, but was unwilling to leave Milan mid-season.

However, sources at the Italian club have indicated that an agreement has been reached with Chelsea, which will see Ancelotti named as the new coach.

A contract worth around 5.8million pounds a season over three years has been discussed and should be signed in June.

Real Madrid has courted the 52-year-old, but Abramovich’s personal intervention is understood to have helped swing the deal in Chelsea’s favour.

The only remaining obstacle is whether Milan will demand compensation for their manager, who has one year of his contract left to run.

Ancelotti insists he has a gentleman’s agreement with Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi that he can leave with their blessing in the summer. (ANI)

Roman Abramovich’s girlfriend to become Pop mag’s editor-in-chief

London, Mar 1 (ANI): Russian Jewish billionaire Roman Abramovich’s girlfriend Dasha Zhukova is set to take over at Pop magazine.

Zhukova, 27, who co-founded the fashion label Kova and T, has been appointed to lead a revamp of the influential fashion and art publication.

She replaces Katie Grand, Pop’s founding editor, and will be working in partnership with editorial director Ashley Heath, who is rejoining the magazine, he helped found a decade ago.

“I am tremendously excited to take on this challenge. I feel it’s the perfect time to be showcasing and encouraging new energy and talent,” the Telegraph quoted Zhukova as saying.

Pop has previously concentrated on offbeat luxury fashion, but Zhukova has been drafted in to broaden the magazine’s content to include art and contemporary culture.

“We are working hard on a complete revamp of the magazine in order to provide a broader point of view focusing also on art, contemporary culture and the globalisation of all things pop-related,” she added.

Zhukova and Heath are recruiting a new freelance team, after Grand took most of her creative team with her when she left in September last year.

Pop will also have a new international editorial board including design critic Alice Rawsthorn, fashion icon Daphne Guinness, and artist and film director Sam Taylor-Wood.

The first issue of the new-look magazine, owned by Bauer Media, will hit newsstands on September 1 with a cover price of 5 pounds. (ANI)

Abramovich loses over nine billion dollars

London, Feb.17 (ANI): A Russian business magazine – Finans – has claimed that Chelsea’s billionaire owner Roman Abramovich’s total wealth has fallen from 23 billion dollars to 13.9 billion dollars.

Though he still remains second on the list of Russia’s most wealthy individuals, the combined fortunes of Abramovich and 48 other rich Russians has slid by 69 per cent to 151 billion dollars, mirroring the 67 per cent decline in the Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange or Micex Index.

However, Abramovich was still voted “the most interesting billionaire” by Finans readers, winning 49 per cent of the vote.

Chelsea have consistently denied any correlation between Abramovich’s financial situation and what chief executive Peter Kenyon has described as a “line by line” review of the club’s business.

However, Chelsea has set a target of becoming financially self-sufficient on an annual basis from July.

The club’s most recent financial figures, published on Friday, show that Chelsea lost 66 million pounds last year and that Abramovich has ploughed more than 700 million pounds into the club since 2003. (ANI)
