General strike curbs Manipur’s normal life

Imphal, Sep 12 (ANI): Normal life has been curbed in Manipur on Saturday due to a 24 hours general strike called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) to protest against the alleged fake encounters.

The JAC is a group of NGOs, protesting the recent killing of a driver in an encounter.

The markets, shops, and business establishments in most parts of the state remained closed.

The transport services within the state and also with the neighboring states have been affected due to the strike.

A driver named Md Rehaman alias Tomba was killed along with five others, in an encounter with the security forces on September 8 at Awang Khul in Imphal West district.

The security forces maintain that the youths who were killed in the encounter were militants.

‘Super’ Sree wants to quit Big Brother

Washington, June 25 (ANI): Big Brother housemate Sree wants to quit the show after housemates accused him of lying.

The 25-year-old Indian student from University of Hertfordshire was caught in an argument after he helped himself to teetotal Russian boxer Angel’s share of the week’s alcohol without asking.

When the other housemates asked Sree about the missing alcohol, he denied drinking it and ran straight to the diary room to quit the show.

“I’ve seen people’s true colours tonight,” Contactmusic quoted Sree as saying.

However, Big Brother has told Sree he couldn’t leave for 24 hours to give producers time to organise photocalls, and asked him to get back into the house resolve his differences,

Meanwhile, Sree and Noirin once again had an argument, with Noirin branding him a “compulsive liar”.

She said: “You’re upsetting me because you are not being a man again. I’m upset because you’re not admitting to being a compulsive liar.”

She also accused him of being jealous of her friendship with Marcus.

Sree later complained: “She said things that really upset me. She called me a liar – and jealous because her best mate is now Marcus.” (ANI)

Gujarat Monsoon – Gujarat Monsoon Update – Gujarat gets pre-monsoon showers

Gujarat Monsoon – Gujarat Monsoon Update – Gujarat gets pre-monsoon showers

Gandhinagar, June 23 (IANS) Amid worries of a delayed monsoon, large parts of Gujarat have received pre-monsoon showers in the 24 hours to Tuesday afternoon, an official said here.

A total of 56 sub-districts in 17 districts have witnessed pre-monsoon activity with rains ranging from 3 mm to 10 cm being received during the period, the agriculture department official said.

He said Kaparda sub-district in south Gujarat had received the maximum of 10 cm of rain during the period raising hopes of a fresh sowing season if more rains are received in the next 72 hours.

However, most districts that received pre-monsoon showers are in Saurashtra region, mainly Junagadh, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Surendranagar and Porbander.

In particular, the drought-prone Kutch district has not received any pre-monsoon showers and most reservoirs in the desert region have very little water left.

Most check dams in the state also have on average only 20 percent of water left, he added.

The spectre of a draught still lingers in the minds of the Gujarat farmers if the pre-monsoon showers do not continue for another one week before the arrival of the monsoons, the official said.

Gold Daily Commentary for 3.24.09

Gold has posted some heavy losses over the past 24 hours, exercising its positive correlation with U. S. equities as the S and P closed up over 7%.

The previous metal briefly sunk below our 1st tier uptrend line on Tuesday, but is currently fighting back above with the S and P futures trading lower pre-market.

The condition of Gold has deteriorated overnight considering last week’s huge rally. However, the last movements in negative territory have been backed by relatively low volume compared to March 19th’s up-bar.

Therefore, since the large action is to the upside, we remain positive trend-wise on the precious metal as long as it can hold up around present levels.

The positive correlation with U. S. equities is alive and well, and Gold’s movement will likely depend on the performance of stocks. If the S and P really can rocket past 800 towards 900, then we may have a change of heart with Gold.

Meanwhile, the high volatility should continue for the time being. Fundamentally we see resistances of $935.34/oz, $939.27/oz, $942.91/oz, and $947.40/oz. To the downside, find supports of $931.98/oz, $927.78/oz, $924.69/oz, and $919.65/oz. Gold is currently trading at $934.20/oz.
