The Ararat Rural City Shire is opening up almost 11 hectares of land to residential development.
The subdivision will create 76 new housing lots off the Western Highway in Ararat’s north-west.
Mayor Gwenda Allgood says 3,000 people are expected to move to the region before 2031.
She says the shire assesses about 60 planning applications per year.
“We’re very excited about this. It’s going to actually be released in stages, it’s not going to be all coming onto the market at one particular time,” councillor Allgood said.
“But it’s a great area out there, it’s very peaceful, very close to mountain ranges and very close to the Chalambar Golf Course.”
